Replaced the Lucas 1.5 ohm coil with a flame thrower 1.5 ohm and went to the SEKZ meet. The car is indescribably more responsive and keen. Not to mention the far better cold starts. I guess not all 1.5 ohm coils are created equally.

Thats interesting - when I replaced my flamethrower with. Lucas one, I noticed no difference at all.
Maybe it's the difference between a working one and a broken one?

Yes! It's a Quaife. The old rear pinion bearing is resisting removal but I hope I'll get it fitted in the car by next weekend.

Not sure - could be that my Lucas one wasn't right from the start. I measured impedance at 1.8ohms on the primary. Still, keeping it in the car as a working spare in case of emergencies!

So far, it's all stripped out and I've fitted the crown wheel, the side bearings and the rear pinion bearing.

All pretty straightforward except pulling the old rear pinion bearing off. That needed patience and a little ingenuity.

To fit the new one I put the pinion in the freezer overnight and the bearing in the oven for 5 mins and it went on easy enough.
