Exactly my thoughts on this John, all the car looms that i have seen like jaguar bmw and them things that dagenham used to build all have just crimped ends, theres quite a lot of ignition switches that i have seen that have the wires soldered into just a plain hole on the back, what i am soldering is any cables that i have joined together and then a double layer of heat shrink sleeve
while on topic i have to supply around 10 amps each for the 3 engine systems ie vanos control fuel injectors and ignition coils from the ignition on position, would you use a separate relay for each or just one 40 amp jobby for the lot ?

Possibly a better option, if you have any more cables to join, would be something like this?

Ecu from specialist components and i have a man just down the road who can map it if i need a bit more power, if i fit some cams

Dave thats a bummer i'm hoping i dont have that as i'm using all new crimp lucar connectors with the nice little rubber boots like those on the little fuse board in the picture, the edges actually fold over into the wire and look factory unlike the blue plastic covered ones that just clamp the wire
Sounds good, can that ecu run a dual Vanos engine?

I'd run 3 separate relays but that's just me.

On the standard engine part of the loom I think there should be 3 or 4 relays(white ones?). They're fed off a main relay(well on a e36 they are). Maybe the best route would be to replicate what BMW did?

Switched earths are fun With your aftermarket ecu I guess you'll not have half the hassle/headache's of getting it to run on a standard ecu.

Fantastic engines.
