OK thanks, Rob. It was one of those cars that looked so good and I couldn't believe it went for just £4,200. For months afterwards I was kicking myself for not bidding on it and I've never forgotten it. It was the car that really got me seriously thinking about owning a Z and that led to me eventually buying, some six years later, the car I've got now. Just wondered whether it was as good as it looked. Suppose I'll never know where it ended up now!

Rob (Riddler), according to experian, HYU 449N last changed keeper in Oct 2003 and according to the DVLA the car has also been unlicensed (not SORN, though) since July 2003 so its either sat in a barn somewhere or no longer with us....??

It's a mystery - the auction was in October 2003, so it sounds like it has either been stored somewhere or shipped abroad maybe, It looked in very good condition and was unusual with its two-tone paint job and wheels that had been sprayed gold. At the time I was not too knowledgeable on Z prices - I sort of expected it to fetch around £8000 so was amazed at the hammer price. Such a car now, if it WAS as good as it looked, would be worth well over five figures. I MAY still have the auction brochure as I tend to squirrel things - if I do, I will scan a picture of the car and post it on here!

Well, I had a quick trawl through my old mags and brochures etc and guess what? I came across the brochure for that 2003 auction where I saw that green and silver 240Z sell - the one that appears to have since vanished without trace. Anyway, attached is the brochure page if anyone is interested.

Hate to pour cold water on your warm fuzzy Memories, Robert, but I inspected that particular 240Z a month or two before it went to Auction, and it reminded me of a Bar of Aero......
The Auction price was well above what it was worth, to be honest, which possibly explains why it doesn't appear to be on the Road nowadays. |

Odd that the registeration number ends in an "N", which would usually designate a 1974 vehicle, not a 1972...?

By the way, can any of the club's techy-people boost the quality of the scan a bit? |
