more rust more pics
scuttle panel not looking good,repair needed all round wher windscreen sits and both corners near engine by
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() not sure how im going to do this one metal so much thinner. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() thought about trying to weld this on and cutting old metal off afterwards decided to bend L SHAPE section the length of scuttle panel as both sides curve in different wayscut away old rusty metal,tack welded L section then cut small Vs every 3 inches or where needed to form the right curves tack each one as i went along very tricky ![]() Once this was done repaired the corners ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() time to get ready to spot weld it back ![]() ![]() |

now ready to re fit repaired scuttle panel before taking the panel off i took measurements
all across the width and across the diagonals,so when refitting in new it would be right for windscreen,and trims,sprayed where panel is to be refitted.zinc primed areas where going to be welded,then went on to plug weld back in original places. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() thank god thats done not fun ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() what can be next bet i can find more rust guess whats next come on get on your keyboards and reply if you've looked and not replied thats what site and club is about sharing thoughts ![]() ![]() ![]() :ch eers: |

yes steve the roof lip repair was next this was not too major ,didnt take any more pics of that repair.so moving on to the doors
![]() ![]() ![]() bottom of both doors rusted away need to rebuild bottom of door frame ,and put in lower door skin repair panel. hurray Mike has got 2 one is for 2+2 one is for 2 seater so will need to extent one.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() lower door skins welded on and grinded down welds just need very light skim of filler and then flat doors ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() feel like im getting nearer the end of welding time for another dig around will be back with more pics soon,of to santa pod show on sunday might see some of you there![]() |

Great job on the doors, very satisfying work. I've done a bit of that myself on a couple of cars Anglia 105E and my previous 240Z.
The feeling going back into the house after a successful few hours in the garage was worth the aggro. I wouldn't want to do it again though.

My 1979 280ZX Coupe has been in France under going a full body and engine restoration for the past 2.5 years, it's due back this November and I can only pray that the job is as thorough as yours! RESPECT
