My 240's arrived at last
Good points are, Z therapy carbs, New bush's all round, lots of the little bits of the car are still there, doesn't look like its ever had a serious bump of any type. New gaskets on the top end of the engine, not 100% sure what's gone on there if anything at all. New brake parts and bits of trim, new UK lights fitted. It goes and stops well.
Bad bit is a dogleg repair, its not the best of repairs so i'll have to sort, a broken diff that only drives one wheel and thats about it, but i'm very happy with the car as it seems very honest.
Its a 10/70 build.
It came with a boot full of bits, enough to rebuild the engine providing that they're the right size/parts etc.
I've got hold of a few bits to help sort the car out too

As good as any others i've seen, doors are 100%, same for the tailgate panel, battery has leaked and eaten through the paint but its solid all round, i've not found a pin hole in the floors(yet!), airtubes are 100%, even the sub frames don't appear to have suffered much, inner wings are all like new, the boot floor hasn't been cut for speakers, it looks like the original tunnel and wheel trim inside.
It looks like its had some anti chip/rust proofing on it although its now falling off again. The paints a cheap American job but not the worse cheap one, they took the rubber seals off and its in the right colour, the inside is all original paint.
I've not found any filler except the dogleg bit(so far). Sill's are solid, even behind the dogleg.
Are there any other bits I should look for?

Mmmm, I wondered who'd bought this. I bid on it 'blind' a while back and was the highest bidder but not high enough to meet the reserve.
Did you buy the 'back-up' too?
Very early shell this one, it should make a very good car with a little tidying.
That gearbox and diff could be useful (if they are in good condition).

I can remember you saying, I had been in touch with him also but he wanted 7k for it, however I didn't pay nearly that for it, the day I was there he sold the black one too. He's also emailed me to say he's got another coming across!
I've not got a back up, just been drawing up a list of what I need to do for an MOT, the wiring has been played with which i'm sure will cause me headaches.
Plans are roughly;
Give her a good 'tune-up'
Have our second child**
Robin hood marathon**
Suspension(better quality dampers/springs/arb's)
Brakes(keep rear drums, 4 pot front calipers)

looks like you have a good car there with a little bit of work,i would sort the dogleg out fairly soon as i think you will find it will be quite rusty and do not forget to block the aircon holes up aswell on the bulkhead .

I've made a little 'progress' on the car....
I decided to start with electrical issues.
I had to get to the wiper motor, at first it looked like rust everywhere under the scuttle cover
However it just turned out to be about 1kg of desert sand A wire brush and a good going over with the dyson removed it all and lots of straw. A good pointer from another member means my wipers are now fully working and even seem to move at a little speed.
I moved on to the heater next, the wiring had been butchered for an aftermarket A/C install. Once I got hold of a decent wiring diagram it wasn't too bad to get it going again, upon power up cue another kg or so of sand blown in my face and the inside of the car! Seems to blow with some power still which is good. The bad thing is a lack of heat even when the car is fully warm. So it made sense to take the dash out to go over the wiring properly, fit new lamps to the dash and fit a full dash cover, my dash is properly gone!
Still to sort are:
Hazards(think I just need the right switch)
Indicators(were working fine but stopped when trying to wire the hazards to work on an incorrect switch)
Heated window(was disconnected to feed power to AC or a Stereo amp)
Convert the lighting to UK spec.
This could be a long road ahead!

Ripped all the repairs off and starting again following a recommended idea from a dash repair guy (who came round to demonstrate what he could do, but didn't spot me making notes so I could do it myself..)
Cut out a wider section of the cracks at a sharp angle to lower the raise you get from splits, and also to give a base for the rubber compound. Then filled the cracks with expanding foam (odd, but it's flexible and sandable) and sanded back to just below surface level:
Filled the cracks to just above surface level with and SEM flexible compound (this stuff is immense!!):
Now am (during lunchbreaks) sanding back to match the original dashboard contours.. This stuff though is brilliant. I can flex the dash and no splits or anything returning. I'm becomming a serious fan of SEM products. Will see though, as the top textured coat and finish are SEM so may hate them once I get doing that! Anyhow, **** pic but it's getting there..
Also, kicked the so called "Hot wife" into gear..

So have set her on making a new one. Replacement was serious cash, but how hard can it be combining Jute:
We shall see how the finished product emerges...
She's also tasked with recovering the seats, but no pics as yet, but you should hear the language that comes from the kitchen when she's been working on them. Also got her to redo the foam to, as my fat **** needs some padding..

It's pretty difficult to get most SEM products in the UK - only found 1 official supplier.
The product is SEM 68422. Most SEM products are numerical being a trade only supplier usually, but I think it's effectively a bumper repair product.

Finally, after lots of sanding, and more sanding, I've got the texture coat on..
Doesn't look so great yet as, guess what? It now needs more sanding....
400 grit wet & dry to flatten out the bumps evenly, and then the nice top coat goes on (so it will lose the dull, lumpy finish and be nice and smooth like a normal dash.. So it says on the tin anyhow...)
