I know I'm a bit senile but can anyone tell me how the fan cools the rad or am I a bit sad in the brain department

you said it.....lol

to keep it nice and simple, when you are moving you have airflow through the rad ...
when your stationary no air flows ......so hey presto the fan pulls (or pushes) the air through...easy peasy lemon squeezy innit!

so the hot air is pulled or pushed onto the engine all the time

Well Steve, as a big "Fan" of yours, I will push you anytime you want...

"so the hot air is pulled or pushed onto the engine all the time"

No Steve, the air that is pulled through the radiator is cool and pushes the hot air (accumulated arund the engine and exhaust manifold) out of the engine compartement. A reason why the standard fan should be kept as it blows cool air around the engine etc that a Kenlowe cannot !
The metal plate (deflector) that sits (on a Z) between the radiator and the engine (at the bottom) that is so often removed and not replaced, helps airflow under the engine compartement that aids the 'sucking' that draws the hot air out from the engine compartement !

fanx sean, give him a slap 4 me please!

couldn't of worked that well or they wouldn't of had to put vents in the bonnets of the 280Z and 280ZX or was that more to do with getting the hot air away from arround the engine more efficiently as the heat would effect the FI?

22-09-2004, 11:01 PM
No, just that the 280 ZX doesn't go as fast as the 240 so hot air hangs around longer doing more damage !
Or perhaps it's because the octane rating in lower and therefore needs lower operating temperatures !

so the Kenlowe fan in mine is a load of old bollox??.....the engine does seem to get hot and them webbers dont like it....i since fitted a heat shield outta aluminium beneath them..

Kenlowe all right but in addition to the standard fan (as insurance to cool the engine), kenlowe does nothing for heat build up under the bonnet !

Who's Ken lowe?

22-09-2004, 11:32 PM
No, standard 280 Turbo (on paper) only justs beats the 240 ( 7.8 secs to 60 against 8 for a 240. Mid range acceleration I'll concede but Nissan only just recovered what they'd spent 10 years losing !

thank you so kind wish some other 240 owners would realise this

Of course, after market turbo kits were **** !

22-09-2004, 11:41 PM
talking about standard cars with out any mods

Two glasses of cheap red wine and you get all serious !
Shame Nissan didn't import the turbo beastie here !
