Thumbs up Targas off today!

Had the targas off today....Makes the 280ZX seem a completely different car when the roof's off!
Pulled up at work this morning and our Regional Manager was sat in his car waiting.
He saw me get out of the 280ZX and said.... "That's a bit flash isn't it...What is it ?"
I replied... "Oh it's a Datsun.... a Datsun 280ZX!"
"Oh!" He said looking confused...I could see he was thinking..."That's alright we're not paying you too much then!"

I was driving through town on the way home behind a yellow Porsche Boxster and I think my car got more looks from pedestrians.....Or rather, the girls were eyeing up the Porker and guys.... mainly those with beards, were looking at the 280ZX!

I always knew owning the Z would be bad as I have a beard! lol I must say when I have mine out she gets some really good attention. Other week I ended up with a Micra sat outside the house with 4 guys in it, I'd been giving the old girl a clean and all that glitters attracted attention. Initially I feared the worst but they where just really interested and wanted to know all about her, luckily not does she have an alarm and will a flat blade screw driver open the doors mate? So the sun does get her more attention. Will have another run in the next few days I hope

Jez,
I've been to and from work every day this week with the roof off and left it like that all day as it is a large safe car park. It's been really nice not getting into a blistering hot car in the afternoon. Not today tho' cos it's trying to rain down here.

When my 280ZX was parked at work last week, I noticed two dodgy looking dudes giving my car a good looking over!....One of them got his phone out and proceeded to take various photos from different angles.I then noticed that they had gotten out of a nice looking Skyline GTS parked a few spaces away....Must just have been Nissan enthusiasts!....Hopefully!

It does transform the car, to drive it open topped.....Although my exhaust is a little loud when roofless!
I keep hoping that the hot sun won't melt the headlining like last year!...But now I've retrimmed it , it should be ok.

Mine's a bit loud too and it's the wind that's trying to pull the headlining out with the top off! So I'll be fixing mine this weekend!

The problem with the original headlining is that the backing perishes and turns to dust, so that if you glue it back, the sun and wind soon have it flapping around again!
I bought some matching vinyl material from Tatton Park last year and replaced mine, so it should be ok!

Before........

During....

After....

Getting the headliner out of the car is the most time consuming, unless you know where all the clips and screws are!..You're looking at half a day's work in total to remove, re-trim, allow time for the adhesive to dry fully and refit.

That Interior is GORGEOUS!!! I get transfixed every time I see it. I cut my lining off and dont know where to start with getting material. Is it a good idea to use fine sand to weigh it down whilst drying?
Like you lot,my roofs been off and the cameras are out more than ever!!! I love the attention she gets....
Great Post JEZ!!!!
