Wheel finish

Hi guys

I have a second set of standard 260Z wheels I want to get refurbed, whats the correct finish?

The ones I have on my car, shown in photo, are a dull silver with gun metal / graphite grey inserts.

Has anyone seen these done in bright silver with graphite inserts?

Anyone seen them done in a diamond cut / polish with graphite inserts?

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Steve

Thoughts?
When the car was launched in the 70s they looked awful.
They still look awful
They are way too narrow at 5.5" for modern spirited motoring.
Dont bother thowing good money after bad.
The world is full of lovely wheels both old skool and modern that will transform the looks and improve the handling at the same time.
All as usual IMHO.
You asked............................................. ..

I had 7 of these wheels, 4 of which were refurbed. Took them all down the scrappy last October. BUT, we all have different taistes so if you like them, thats fine.

At least you won't wake up to find your car on bricks

I've never liked them either and there is a set on my 240Z (they are a questionable upgrade too i.e. alloy and 1" wider).

I don't think the width at 5.5" is a big issue from a driving point of view in fact I quite like driving cars that move about a bit. Johnny - remember that Citroen Dyane at Mallory on those wheels that were about 4 inches wide - I was impressed!

To be honest they don't look rough enough to need a refurb. but you know them better than me and most people like things more shiny then me.

If your car is original elswhere then it makes sense to keep the Nissan wheels. I plan to put my 240Z back on steels and dustbin-lid trims and they do look aweful!

How about a second set of modern wheels for the photo shoots

The wheels on the car (in the photo) are good, but not shiney enough!

The set I have to refurb are in boxes waiting to be done,

I have pukka minilites on my TR6, love them, but the 260 is 32k miles from new and very standard and original, I want to keep it that way, which is why I was asking about the original or alternate finishes.

I think diamond cut and a graphite insert would look best, also with a hint of being different

Wheel finish

[Anyone seen them done in a diamond cut / polish with graphite inserts?]

Steve,

See, taste is diverse. I'm probably in a minority of 1 (or 2) as I actually like the look of these wheels (mind you my daily car's a magnificent Multipla and I think that's gorgeous). I think these wheels are pretty subtle compared to some of the wilder stuff around. Handling's a different matter. Take a look at this 260z with bright silver wheels, looks good ... to me.

Wheel Finish

Steve,

Here are some images of an unused late 260Z wheel I have, so you can detrmine the original finish. I personally love the look of these wheels too.

On my 260Z I have some wheels that look like Minilites but are actually made by an Australian company called Performance. They are powder-coated with a diamond cut rim - take a look at my gallery to see them.
A couple of them have some blemishes on, so just this week I have decided to get them refurbed. A company near where I live in Stockport called Prestige Wheels quoted me £110 a wheel because of the diamond cut element! Thought that was a bit steep to say the least.
Then I was recommended to try a company called Pristine Wheels in Milton Keynes. They have quoted me £57 a wheel for a full refurb with diamond cut - and that includes courier costs to get the wheels from here to Milton Keynes and back! So I am going to give them a try. Will post pictures when they are back on the car.

Pristine Wheels are well known in the area and well respected.

Hopefully they live up to their reputation for you also!!
