R200 LSD, clunk on lock?

260z with R200 plated lsd

I noticed today eash time as I pull away with the steering on lock I get what sounds like a clunk clunk sound from either a driveshaft or the prop?
Seems only to cluck twice or so each time then not again, almost as if a uj's grabbing then letting go?
Doesn't seem to do it in a straight line either
Deffo can't rem it being like this before the car was laid up for the last 10mths
Have now run out of ideas as to what would cause it?

If the lsd unit was failing could it cause it to grab/ clunk on lock?

The use of most plated type LSD's produce horribly noisy clunks at low speeds on lock but it depends on the preload, I think.
The LSD's set up for rally cars are horrible to use on the road at low speeds because of this.
I would not use a LSD of this type on a road car!

rear wheels turning at different speeds on full lock so I guess its just the preload set on the LSD grabbing, maybe it was locked fully before and now its a little worn you are noticing it more. Talk to Steve K or DJ as mine is fine, works without any clink on the road or turning if it's setup right. I did have a problem with the preload on the output bearings but a small shim sorted that.

There is an lsd R200 manual you can download on this site somewhere, it will give you all the info you need.

Cheers
With age/ use would the diff not grab less not more ?
Sure it wasn’t like this before so why it is now I don’t know ?

But, if its just the nature of the diff and not a fault thats ok

maybe it was fully locked before and now is on and off at that level of torque. When was the oil changed last?
