Z32 questions

Here's a bunch of questions I have on Z32s (specifically imports).

1) What should be under the carpet in the boot of a Z32? I saw a toolkit and another empty white polystyrene cradle and a space saver, but instead of the current MDF addition what should there be to hold the carpet level with the side trim?

2) Say you're coasting, low rpm, down hill, and you accelerate a little bit. There's a slight clunk coming from the rear like somewhere in the drivetrain some slack is being taken up. What might this be typically please?

3) Can cruise control be fitted if it wasn't fitted as standard?

4) Can you get key blanks any sense? A friend only has one key (titanium one yippee) and would like another cut.

5) Is there an easy way to wire the fogs into the rear panel (where presumably they are on a UK car)?

I'm tired, can't think of the other questions I was supposed to ask, more tomorrow.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Hardboard panels and velcro strips...

Propshaft bearings and U.J.s are notoriously dodgy. Check the rubber mounted centre bearing in particular. Any drivetrain vibration is usually partially seized (or even slightly notchy) U.J.s.

3) Can cruise control be fitted if it wasn't fitted as standard?
Probably, but involved and (IMO) not worth the bother.

Both normal and valet key blanks are available (black and red heads respectively). Titanium keys no longer available, but nice Nismo blanks available on special order (expensive).

Many import owners convert the inner side / brake lights to fog operation, or use one of the pair of reversing lamps. Or fit a U.K. rear bumper with the fog light in it.

Hi,
Courtesyparts sell both master and valet key blanks for the Z32 and there's a guy on ebay from Australia who also sells them too.The previous owner of my Z32 got one from him.
300ZX Key-Blanks
I haven't got cruise on my car and wouldn't bother fitting it.

Thanks for the help guys.

How does the valet key work/differ? I wouldn't need one really but it's an interesting idea.

There was no vibration at any speeds from the car so guessing not a propshaft bearing?

The key blanks are readily available via MJP - no need to import from USA! Valet key doesn't open the glovebox so you can leave valuable items locked away when leaving the car with the workshop or valet parking!

The boot floor looks like this (at least it does if you have a nice, well-looked after unabused TT 2+2 :D )
Cheers, Gio
PS one which hasn't got a drivetrain "clunk" and which already has inner rear brake lights acting as rear fogs. And a titanium key. ;)

The one I looked at has inner brake lights acting as fogs, I didn't like that ;) I meant to say rear centre panel not rear panel. I guess red bulbs/film would do the trick there.

The clunk really wasn't that noticeable, but definitely there, nothing that cannot be magic'd away with a credit card lol.

And it had a titanium key to copy for a blank... ;) Those pics look good, I'll bring some carboard along to Billing in the back of the Omega so I can make a template should I need one heh.

Thanks again

The hardboard underneath the boot carpet is a real jigsaw puzzle and a right pain!:D
p.s. Gio..Did you ever sell your TT and buy an NA?
