wiper / light stalk

does anyone know if the wiper / light stalk can be dismantled for repair? I've got 2 and they're both faulty. one has a dodgy light switch and on the other the wash / wipe push won't work. I'll need to sort this for it's mot even though i don't drive the car at night or when rain forecast!

Apparently it can. But when I did mine the tabs you have to bend back to open it broke when I closed it up again. So I had to buy a recon one.

I've opened the indicator switch up and repaired it.

I think this is one of the worst features of these old Datsuns - I bet someone has adapted modern controls.

I got mine from Fourways - about £80 ish. Also Mike Feeney of MJP Eastern (MrF on the forum) may have them.

Good luck!

Thanks Vaughan mine is a 1974 260Z, RHD., although £80 ish for a recon seems very reasonable so i'll defo give Fourways a ring.

Both can be opened and repaired relatively easily. I actually did both not that long ago. I wrote a step by step guide with pictures on my blog in case anyone else found it useful.

I've only got round to writing up how to rebuild the light stalk but will write up the indicators when I get a minute. To be honest the indicators are easy enough that you probably don't need a guide anyway.

Here's the write up: http://bit.ly/1zprUdu

Blimey! that's an impressive (and slightly daunting) step by step guide, but seeing as i have a spare i'm definately gonna give it a try! Thanks for posting!

Very good blog, have bookmarked it. Can see it being very helpful as I work my way through mine.
Thanks

No worries. I've found that there aren't always obvious answers readily available for some of the things I've been working through so I end up figuring stuff out myself. If I do then I try and share it on my build blog as I guess other people are must be in the same position. Thanks for the positive feedback though.

Anybody had to replace the headlight flasher switch wire? The knob is stuck on with something. Thought about applying a little heat to release it.

I just "tinned" the remaining wire with solder at both ends and soldered mine back on. Seems solid but time will tell. I appreciate this doesn't really answer your question but suffice it today I didn't have the courage to take mine apart! ;)

Not specifically, I repaired my light switch and indicators stalk, however its all pretty simple so if its repairable you should be able to see what is wrong.
