Wilwood Brake Master Cylinder

Been looking at replacements for the brake master cylinder for my 79 280ZX and come across a Wilwood 1" unit that is almost a direct bolt on replacement, with a bit of fettling the bolt holes.

Anyone using one of these in their Z/ZX, if so what are they like? I've read some conflicting article on the net, some stating spongy responses to braking, others not.

we use Willwood masters on our racing Mustangs and have had no problems whatsoever.
we buy ours from Summit Racing who have always been superb to deal with.
we use the 1 1/16 unit. hope this helps

I've got one on my 240Z. Can't tell you what it's like yet though! Will also depend on your bake set up of course..

I have willwood brake calipers and discs and a 280 master cylinder (late) works fine on my 260, so keep wot you have ,280zx brakes are normally ok in my experiance

I think you have to swap over some of the brake fittings as they are not metric on the wilwood

Thank for the info all. As my cylinder shot it may go this way. I did adapt to fit a later 83 master cylinder but I'm not that happy with the end result to be honest.

Cheers again

Did you adjust the pushrod to suit the M/C ?

Hi Nigel

Yes I did that, but I think its just a ****** cylinder. Its an aftermarket one by Centric.
