Why build a Hybrid Z ?

The old folk always prattle on about how good things used to be and here we are prattling on about how good they are going to be :D, still, the whole passion of debate surrounding these cars might get heated from time to time but at least it means people care and that they are bothered about their cars.

Other threads have talked about diesels and the idea has been met with some disdain but at over 200BHP and 350ft lbs of torque I would love to drive a Z with my BMW diesel in, they pull like a steam train.

So apart from Wyn with the ZVR (please please call it a Zed VR not a Zee VR :D ) who else is going to go down a new path for engine transplants ????

Jag V12 has been done in the US as has BMW V12, Mazda rotary.... any ideas or takers ??

Andy, I'm with you and the whopping diesel transplant - be really original too to have fuel economy AND power in a Z !

Back in the 'good old days' there were people who did things to their Zeds that the purists didn't like, then everybody seemed to get serious and trzat these cars like potential assets and later (now) have discovered that the Zs aren't good for investing, just good for fun, anyway you like it :)

you bring up a good point about the investment potential sean and therefore the actual classic status of the S30. We would all love to put our car into the true classic category but the reality is that these cars are more practical DIY classics than the thoroughbreds like lambos and ferraris.

grin factor has to be the goal however you like to engineer the car.

apologies for no caps but i am in hospital using a very odd web access indeed :D

Interesting thread. I would say an S30 with triple webbers, electronic ignition, bored and stroked and other mild performance enhancements is "modified" and not "hybrid". Also agree any mods are best on non concourse cars. I'm keeping mine mostly original with sympathetic mods.

A modern hybrid combines two different sources of energy for propulsion, say electric motor and petrol. However it could be a term combined with "restomod" having the old shell and modern running gear. Yet you could have a restomod with battery and electric motor only but I would not call it a hybrid.

Add a small electric motor say 3 to 5 kw, a small battery and call it a mild hybrid for a tax incentive? Anything that is not a sympathetic mod is likely to take you out of "historic" though....

And one that's over 15 years old - so the opinions on modifications may have moved on somewhat!

The thread is a mess as the posts from a certain agent provocateur have been completely deleted. Self cancellation perhaps?

The revival post by TimFZ is probably worthy of a new, dedicated, thread of its own as it deals with the completely 'new' scenario of electric power.
