Well the time has come for some engine upgrades not by choice but needs must :(

cars done 3500 miles since the build and I had a bit of engine breathing going on for a while until last Sunday going down the strip at north weald detected a bit of power loss at the end followed by some blue smoke on the way back to pits from one side of the exhaust, the breathing is a lot worse now  so to be on the safe side johny towed me to a petrol station with a view to calling the breakdown out, halfway through the call and john appeared from the kiosk with coffee in his hand and said c'mon I'll tow you home  quite entertaining on the way home but a lot quicker than waiting for a couple of recovery patrol men to sort me out, so another feather under the 1jzs belt not only is it fast but it doubles up as a tractor ;) I'm sure john has a picture somewhere

I have done some research and it probably the piston lands cracking on one piston so its out with the pistons and a nice set of low comp ones fitted along with race spec con rods and arp hardware 550 hp here we come

Could it have been due to det terry

Possibly Steve but to many variables to consider until its stripped down and inspected, I run one of these
http://twinkam.co.uk/epages/191f6b2...26-60bf-483c-b021-755a0c9099c1/Products/SC253

and had no unusual readings also the ecu will pull ignition if knock detected

Stock engine 8 - 10 psi boost 11:1 comp ratio is pushing it a bit at 8200 rpm.... but it is so sharp and crisp low down and pulls all the way through to red line :D but as I said developed a bit of crankcase breathing even at tick over for the last 1000 miles or so but didn't affect its running or performance, plan is 9.5 : 1 comp ratio pistons and upping the boost, will lose a little low down crispness but will be a safer build

I have that unit Tel, its excellent
Specific pistons and rods giving 9.5 static will allow a good hike in boost.......can wait.

What times were you getting at the strip?

Bad news about the engine but its good that it will end up stronger and able to take more boost.

All you guys keep upping the power, keeps making me think 480 isn't enough, but then I tell myself that my current setup is the best possible for fun road and track driving and that I'd be stupid to chase more power. Thing is, more power is so easy, all I have to do is change the turbos and remap and I can have up to 700ish hp so it might happen in the future once I refine the rest of my setup.

But will it be as much fun?

Would you realistically be able to deploy 700 horses out the back of a car this light and not have your anus pulsating every time you go on the power!? ;)

That was kind of my point as to why I'm keeping it at 480.

If I were to up the power in a few years I'd also upgrade the tyres to 275's and then traction would be greatly increased. I'd still have to deal with less power low down, more lag and a higher boost threshold though so it would probably be less fun on the road.

Ian 1.7 60' and 11.4 I think

Now its time i took a working holiday I think, so, done some research over the weekend wetted my appetite with a low comp build plan as follows

JE 9 : 1 pistons thermal barrier crown and tuff skirt coating

Arrow rods or carrillo rods but probably arrow as there in the uk what do you think ?

Cometic mls gasket

Arp everywhere

Glad I made the removable rad panel now, first time I have seen it from the front with the supercharger fitted
