What did you do to your Z this week?

Not sure I'd agree that TVRs sound better. I don't think there's anything better than an inline 6 at revs.

OK you have me there - I do find myself changing down a lot, not because I need the torque but just love that sound ;)

Modified the dry sump drive belt pulley mounting on the crank bolt. Quick spanner check now just have to polish the tree sap off it from Wiscombe and we are ready for 2 days at Pembrey 3rd 4th June

Oh, forgot about this, installed the world's smallest radiator in the garage!!! A word of warning, the 2kw fan heater I had on a timer sitting below the engine decided to melt itself one day. Thankfully without the Z in the garage!

So when we had the extension built I had heat + return and Cat 5e run to the detached garage in a 4" pipe underground back to the house. Now I need to find a place to plug the network cable into the Z ;)

Took the 260 out for a drive, hit a speed bump (slowly, honest!) and then heard a loud ping from the front nearside. Stopped, looked at, looked around, but found nothing assumed something must have pinged up from the road and then headed home. 50 mile motorway journey, no problems. Yesterday reversed car out of garage, heard a grinding noise when I applied the brake. The tyre had caught the wheel arch, slightly bending the lower front part of the wing. Turns out the Tension/Compression Rod had snapped!.. Darn it!..

Got home safe which was good, but a little worrying I drove all that way and at motorway speeds. Not going to mention it to the Mrs.

That's really quite scary Tim!! Do you have poly or rubber bushing?

My thought's exactly Smiley. I'd hacked it down the motorway before, but fortunately took it easy on the way back following and old 914.

Pretty sure that they're poly bushes. Just been reading up on poly vs rubber and picking up that them being poly may have been a contributory factor. Was only going slowly, but hit the ramp with wheels at angle due to road layout.

Thanks buddy, that is really very worrying. Given what JonBills said, what we've read and the photo of where it has snapped it definitely points to the bushes.

You do realise of course you will go rubber and start looking at the uprated anti-roll bars ;)

Hope the damage to the wing isn't too bad.

Yes, I concur, seems like it. Definitely snapped at low speed. What did JonBills say? Do you have a link?

You’re scaring me.. lol

Lovely, thanks for links Ali. Reading up as I write.

Question is, would you go used in case you have the same hidden weaknesses?

Agree, in reflection, replacement needs more thought than I had originally thought.

Got a set of sway bars from Mike for my 280ZX, worth every penny.

This week I 'ave mostly been doing.... got the car out of storage and polished the bright work. MoT later this week.

Took the silver car out today and had a quite eventful trip.

Went to the unit first to remove the prop from the blue car then set off to Bexley to drop it off to have the rear joint replaced for a larger item to fit my new z31 input flange. All good so far so then started my second leg of the trip to Ashford to drop off something for Dean's race car. Half way along the M20 the car started to spit back through the throttle bodies and lose power. Felt like fuel starvation so I nursed it to the next junction then pulled off to take a look. I managed to find a garage but they were totally uninteresting in providing any type of assistance............other than recommend I try another place just down the road. This other place turned out to be Fourways Engineering who were extremely helpful and assisted me in identifying a kinked fuel line that was probable closing up. I rejigger the lines and all appeared fine. Spent at least another 1 1/2 hours just chatting zeds before I was on my way. The rest of the day went smoothly.

Its funny how the misfortune of my car playing up can lead to an enjoyable morning chatting about cars. I love Zedding.

So, with my new found compression rod paranoia I got under the car and played tonight. I felt the need to torque all the bolts I could find and found the drop links I had never looked at before "looked" loose even though I couldn't move them. So I set about tightening and woah! Each one went around 3 whole turns (nearly a whole nut down)! Much the same at the rear about 2 turns a side. I added some locking nuts for good measure.

Couldn't resist going for a drive and only two words: oh wow!!!! The z is so sure footed and so much more responsive.

It's always good when a suspension is tightened up correctly and works as designed ;)
