One for the shop keepers :D
I’ve just bought an item from ebay n when I go to pay for it via paypal, it keeps adding vat to my total? No mention of vat was displayed in the advert so can vat be charged still?
Do adverts not have to state vat will be charged ?

I'm not a shopkeeper Wyn but from my experience on ebay I have never been charged VAT before. I have noticed though that certain sellers (not many) do state that VAT will be added on top of the winning bid, but since he never stated this condition in his auction YOU SHOULD NOT PAY IT!

Is he new to ebay? Do his other auctions, if he has any, state that VAT will be added? I am thinking he may have forgotten to put it in but thats not your fault. CAVEAT VENDITOR!http://library.findlaw.com/2000/Jun/1/128424.html

George as you say, I’ve bought before and where vat was mentioned its all been above board, i.e. clearly mentioned just never come across this one before where it wasn’t

Btw, Only a £1.51 item aswell lol, not that I’m tight mind :D

Lucky it was a £1.51 then, could have been painful if it was an expensive item!

I hope it wasnt someones XMAS present?

When we do e-bay auction for stuff from the shop we alway put in big letters "PLEASE ADD VAT TO THE FINAL PRICE". We try and make it as clear as possible so there is no misunderstanding. You also get a VAT invoice with the item.

If he has not stated it clearly in the description then don't pay it. If he is a trader then he won't want the negetive feadback. If you deside to pay it, ask for a proper VAT invoice.
