Tracking

I had my tracking done recently at the local tyre centre. They made a complete pigs ear of it, the steering wheel wasn't straight afterwards, and now I know that they only adjusted one side.
Today I had a proper 4 wheel alignment check. I had 5mm toe out !!!!! thanks to those idiots.
Now it is 1mm toe in, as it should be - car feels much better now.

You have to be really careful who you take your car to as some places seem to be run by MONKEY Boys, I always do all my work myself but being in the trade we have all the relevent tools etc to do the job properly. The best thing to do is to try and go somewhere that's been recommended to you by a friend or mate. You could always come to where I work but it's in Christchurch in Dorset. I am looking to get my tracking etc. done on my car, but am getting increasingly confused by it all. I was wondering what the settings were for a 240, but they would surely be different for a lowered car...

If garages did do it 'by hand' I would certainly have to take it to a very trusted garage! I'm not sure if there is anywhere in the Bristol area that could do it! any ideas anyone?

cheers!

It was Dave Jarman at DJ Road & Race who advised me on the tracking settings. It should be between 1 - 2mm toe in. This applies to my car (260Z) which has been lowered and has urethane bushes.
I'm no where near Bristol, so it is pointless in me recommending my garage man. Just make sure you get a full four wheel alignment test on it. It's a fancy bit of kit that uses strong light beams so the front wheels can be aligned to the rears. You will get greater stability under braking if the tracking is set up right.
