Time for an engine rebuild?

Just to give you guys an update...

I haven't got my car back from the garage yet. I did ask them to put back the engine buts they had removed and asked them to fix everyting else like the seat belt, brake discs as they were quite worn in order for it to pass it's MOT. The oil leak is not an MOT fail...but a constant ABS light is unfortunately and it is the only thing standing in the way of an MOT pass! :(

The ABS light is flashing up with the error code 1 which indicates it is the:

1 left front actuator solenoid circuit

I have asked the garage to try and fix it while they have the car so at least I can take it back with a brand new MOT certificate and then I can tx her as well. Then I can just get her home, remove the engine for the rebuild, put her back in and no need for MOT or tax as i'll already have it. But first things first, I really need to sort out this ABS light.

The mechanic was talking about replacig the entire unit. Someone mentioned that you have to use the Conzult diagnosis tool to clear the fault. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can resolve this?

Thanks again

If you get really lucky someone on here may have Conzult that you can use otherwise there are a few garages that have it.

Here's hoping I am that lucky :) I'm curious as to how much a conzult diagnostic kit would cost?

Not a lot, you can buy the cable off Ebay for less than £20 (Be warned you either need a serial port on your laptop, or a USB to serial converter cable as well, which doesn't come with it). They usually send you the software on a small CD with it, but you can also download it for free. It's only the limited version, but it allows you to see and clear ECU codes, as well as monitor the engines vital stats, like RPM, engine temp, injector duty, etc.

Wait a second. This if this is the same cable that connects to the ECU interface under a panel under the steering wheel?

Well this is embarrassing :) I have that cable already connected I think. It was such a long time ago since I last used it. I always tucked it away down on the carpet close to the seat. For some reason I have a memory accessing my clifford alarm but it may well be a conzult cable. Its a serial jobby though. Its worth a shot though so I will call the garage tomorrow and let them know. And thanks for the download link Mr HollowPoint

Confirmed. The cable I had installed I am sure was fitted to access my clifford alarm functions. It was so long ago now.

I got my car back! :D The ABS error is now fixed. It turned out to be the ABS Control unit itself producing a false error code. I got a second hand unit from Luke at Zcentre and the mechanic replaced the unit and the dashboard light went out. So very happy that is fixed as this was an ongoing fault for ages. A real pain when it was time for its MoT. A problem that seems to have developed now is 5 cylinders firing instead of 6 :(. So it was idling rough and rough driving home so drove home nice and easy. When I take the engine out I can address that. I was advised to use a company called AZNU to clean what might be a carbonized injector head but I'll either replace the injectors with equivalent ones or bigger ones as I'm going for more power. I know they're not cheap but I want to upgrade or replace most of the components where necessary.

Great stuff getting there slowly.

If you but my engine package then all the issues will be sorted ;)

That's a nice offer :) but I only have about a quarter of what you're asking at this present time. I will wait till next month to start working on her and get my landy back on the road. At least I'll have a ride on the road while I work on the Z.
