Only because you're turning in circles - you're talking opinions which you won't change (and most if not all of you agree with each other but not with the same text), manufacturers' disclaimers which you won't change and the law, actuel and potentiel which you won't change.

As was said - the guy did a Z to his taste, he's driving it where Zs are rare and he's got loads of publicity - it'll be up for sale next:rolleyes: !

Oh, and stretched tyres are stupid.............:p

If these became illegal for road use then I would no longer be able to use them on the track, and that would be a real shame. My drag race time would all go to pot and I'd have less fun on the circuits. I, along with most of the armatures attending, do not have the funds to run a support vehicle following me everywhere with my track tyres., and they certainly won't fit in the car. The manufacturers know this and I think this is the main reason they need to remain road legal. If they lose that status then people would simple not buy them as there are better options for track only use.

I must say the input from Amocrace, Racer,Rob, Darren, Johny has been great and very useful in trying to understand more about these tyres and their suitability for road use.

A few months ago when I was shopping for R888's I too had the same impressions that they were fine for fast road use and the odd track day; but in my case I was persuaded otherwise by the retailers of these tyres...maybe it was my loss:confused:

Sean the discussion has moved from streched tyres ( that was Friday's agenda) so when you posted the message below to ignite further replies..

Datsfun so what did you get then ?

Car is not a zed, but old skool datsun; has > 200 bhp/ton and traction was a major issue with the old set (yoko's )

...Toyo T1R were the recommended choice by the specialists only because the R1R are not available in 14" so ended up with 195/55/14 as I did not want to go up to 15" wheels where R1R's are available..

I am very impressed with T1R so far but this is based on fast road use (not trackday use or @pod)

Datsfun - I think you made the correct choice of tyres for you use, fast road with occational track. This is not what I use my car for. I bought the tyres for track and drag performance but needed to be able to drive the car to the events. I try to avoid fast road use as I dont want any more points on my licence. I drive with great care in conditions I feel the tyres are not best suited to. I will and have driven in poor conditions but have never come even close to having a problem. Maybe its because I'm taking it easy.

Everyone uses their car for different things and you should make your tyre choice based on what you use the car for. That's why there is no right answer to the question: What tyre is best? The question should be: What tyre is best for your use?
