Spa road trip

Not a good video. I lost a load of coolant all over the screen as the engine got a little too warm. The camera then kept focusing on the screen. Not sure what the car in front was. The engine was almost silent and it handled superb.

Are you sure? This is 5 of the session laps joined together. You may have seen just the first lap.

Sorry John I jumped in before letting it run. Overheating - it seemed you had sorted that from previous years but then you had an issue on this run. It is much better though.

I have gradually improved the cooling but it still gets hot. Usually climbs to just below 130 c at the end of long straights like at Spa. It didn't overheat at castle comb and never went above 120 c. Because I'm running the evens stuff it doesn't boil over at these temperatures so the engine is protected from rapid rises at loss of water. It will spit a little out of the breather but only a tiny bit when it gets really hot.

160bhp in a Z feels quick.
I guess it depends on perspective. :) 480hp in mine and while it feels quick it still doesn't feel too quick, could handle more.

It felt very stable, even on the sweeping bends. Drove straight and felt planted. The wind noise was high and the tyres were all out of balance from the track session so it was shaking quite a bit.
Good to know, the deeper airdam definitely helps, I've heard it can feel a little floaty at big speeds with the stock one.

Sure mine has enough power to do at least 180 but unless I head to Germany I'll never be able to find out.

Or Spa....

I still feel a well-handling with some decent brakes true 160bhp (25% increase after all) can be a lot of fun and feel quick - you have to get it just right to keep the speed up which you don't need with SOOO much in reserve allowing you to simply blast off !

I've had my zed up to 145 mph on the M11.i saw blue lights in the distance ,slowed down to100 mph then70 mph ,that felt like 30mph after doing those sort of speeds, then lucky for me the police car shot passed, point is you don't have to go to Germany to test yer car, fastest I know of is 217 mph down the A12,point is if you have the power then go for it but be carefull

You were lucky!!! I recently got picked up for doing 81 while flowing with the rest of the motorway in our boring family car.

I can see where your coming from Sean and it will make you carry the speed more but it would frustrate me being held up on the bends and not being able to overtake the faster cars on the straights

Mine handles well enough now to cope with using all of the 396hp. Its not too much power for the track, you just have to manage it correctly. I love Spa and each year I can see improvement but I know I've still got a long way to go. Just like drag racing, I continue to go because you can always find a bit more. My last outing with a best of 11.1@124 with no nitrous just demonstraits that.

Are you talking straight-line performance alone here? On the road or circuit surely you have more than enough.
Yeah, to be fair in most circumstances its more than quick enough, on circuit and in the corners. On road the problem is you gain speed so quickly its doesn't take long to be doing crazy speed. It is loads of fun though.

That's why I focused on having as small a boost threshold as possible, minimal lag, best response and good low down power and torque rather than outright power.

You'll surely be in the 10's this year.

Makes me hopeful for when I get a chance to drag mine, 480 and a nice power curve for putting power down (not like the sudden spike you get with a big single) make me hopeful that I can be in the 10's after some practice.

The launch off the line plays a big part in getting the times down. I ran a couple of sub 1.7s 60' times which is probably the quickest I'll get with this type of car.

For those that don't know, a sub 1.7 second 60 ft on road legal tyres is astonishing and probably as good as you can get without going to slicks.

1.7 is great, especially when you consider they aren't big tyres for the power.

I need to get practising my launches, will take some amount of experimenting to find the best launch.
