I have used a similar sealer on my blue car. Is there any down side to using a sealer? Does it clog the strainer? If a zed tank has one.

John, from memory I don't think they have a strainer just a pipe going from the outlet to the base of the tank. The pipe has a hole in it a little way up from the base to avoid dragging through rust particles etc from the very bottom. I think you can see it through the filler neck.

Obviously, I had the advantage that there was no corrosion at all on or in the tank, but I still did the Tank Kleen stage to prepare the surface (albeit without the advised stones bit!). The sealant is a clear/yellow tinged solution. Not super thick and runs pretty well for the stage when you are turning the tank to coat all surfaces. Leaves a nice finish.

Rob - My tank has a couple of large baffles, as seen in the picture above, so you cant see the end of the pipe. Good to know there is no strainer.

Richie - I'll be ordering some of that for when I strip the car to change all the suspension. Sounds like the same stuff Matt described.

Got it all back together today and used a vac pump to clean the last of the debri from the lines until the petrol was completely clear. Then used the same mityvac pump to prime the entire fuel system as the pump refused to pickup fuel from the tank. Car still wouldn't start so spent another hour or so on the carbs, getting the float levels as close to 10mm down as I could. Put it all back together with confidence to would now go. Took a while to get it running, first on 3 then to front carb stated working so went to all 6. Then the front float bowl started overflowing with the valve stuck. I really could do with a working set of carbs!!

I keep looking at my throttle bodies sitting on the shelf. I would have liked to drive the car a little before moving over to injection. I e also got a set of triples I could use.

Need to pickup a few bits today so I can get them properly fitted and measure up for the loom. Then draw up a shopping list so I have everything to complete the install by the weekend.

All the part are ordered except the coils so I'll continue the run the distributor until I find some I like. I'll still control the ignition from the ecu by using it to fire the coil instead of the points. I've gone for cheap but tried and tested sensors for air and water temp, baro and depression, crank angle and lambda.

Life Racing F88. It's from the blue car and will just be swapped between cars. I can only drive one at a time.

I will probably use this ECU on all 3 car I intend to keep so that's the blue one, this car and the v8. It will help me to become better at understanding the complexities of the ECU so I can get the most from it. They are expensive but I get a "special" price so it works out less than an omex or emerald. My mate has been experimenting with extracting all the maps from any factory ECU with the Life connected to piggyback all the sensors and outputs. You drive the car around for a while and the Life datalogging builds up the maps for you. Then when you swap over to the new ECU it is will drive exactly like factory and you can then just tweak for performance and economy. That's the plan for the 3UZ.

I still can't believe that a practical (and technical) guy like yourself can't get the carbs functioning well enough for it to run reasonably ok.

Like you suggested it would be good to try a pair of 'known' good carbs and again you must have a pair on one of your cars. You could then establish if there is another issue with the car.

From MY perspective that would be so much easier than getting throttle bodies set-up but perhaps it's the other way around for you.

Also when it's running and you sell it ( :lol: ) what will you sell it with?

(Did the diaphragm arrive John?)

If I had a good set of carbs then I would of tried them. The set I have been trying to get working were discarded because they wouldn't work properly. My view is that su's are so simple I must be able to fix them. i was wrong. I have another set that I bought recently but these were I really bad shape. I tried to use parts from these to make a good pair of float bowls but there just weren't enough good bits to make a pair. Plus they were different, long and short ears and different size valves so I could never get the levels correct. I spent a lot of time trying to get things working. I got the stage that when warm the car would be fine for quite a while then either the bowls would overflow or run dry. In the end I just gave up.

I had always planned to play with an injected setup eventually and this has just bought this forward. If I ever sell the car then it will probably go back to carbs.
