my clutch keeps seizing up if left longer than a month.
why does this happen and is there any way to prevent it?
i have been using a ratchet strap to pull the lever on the gearbox which works but if i forget to do it and leave the car it seizes on

there is a spray that you can get to stop this happening. will try and find the name of it. it happens because the clutch contains some metal on the lining that sticks onto the flywheel. Better quality clutch discs do not pose this problem

some interesting ideas in that link jonbills
last year a garage managed to unstick it by running the engine on fast tick over for half an hour then did the put it in fourth trick and try the starter.
unfortunately the cars not taxed a the mo till next week so until then i can't get it out f the garage to try it.
ii really would like to change the clutch as i can't put up with the clutch sticking every time i leave it a month.
is there a generic clutch that will fit the datsun 260z 2+2, or will i need to order one from a specialist?

cheers for your help guys

ive taken the gearbox out to have a look at the clutch and i cant really see anything wrong with it other than the friction disk is flat/worn looking unlike new clutches that have sipes/cuts moulded in the friction material.
its got roughly 0.8mm before hitting the rivits so im wondering whether to change it or not as i dont do much mileage?
could anyone tell me the dimensions of the correct clutch for a 260 2+2?
ive heard their not the same as standard 260?
as im not a speed demon or a particularly agressive driver i dont need an expensive or performance clutch but is there a modern/origenal clutch that would fit?

the 2+2 has a 240mm clutch. Given you've got the box out and the friction disk is worn you should replace it.
I think you can still get them from Nissan (via MrF)
Luk also did make them, although can't see any on ebay at the mo.

cheers jonbills
only thing is i measured my friction disk and its 225mm in diameter, would that be from a 240z?
i need to order some parts from mike so will ask when i get through to him next.
i asked at euro car parts today whether they could find out what clutches are available and they did say they could get a 200sx clutch which happens to be 240mm diameter and similer looking pressure plate.
cant tell much from a pic though:)
do you think it might be possible the datsuns clutch could be the same in other models?

Well a 280zx clutch definitely fits I remember reading on hybridz that skyline/RB and 350z clutch fit with some fettling. Don't recall anything about s13/14 clutches tho.
