Repairs and resprays by other club members

Toopy - if you were local to me I would love to help you out. I don't see myself as an expert but when it comes to mechanical things on a Z, you can do most jobs just as good as an expert (or even better) due to the best commodity that you available to you and that is time... Take your time and be methodical and you should get good results.. I always do lots of research first and speak to others that have done the particular task I've set myself up for. It's always good to also have someone experienced there with you to provide another set of eyes and thoughts... Good luck!!

Thanks, the mechanical side of things i can cope with the minor stuff, i replaced my front disc's, pads, hard and flexible brake lines under the wing and fitted a new caliper and put new seals and a piston in the other one, earlier in the year.
I could tackle the suspension etc, i would just prefer over the winter to have it done quickly and painlessly by someone who knows the cars.

It's the very minor surface rust/blemishes/cracks that i mentioned at the start of the thread and hence a re-spray that i cant and frankly dont want to tackle myself!

So if anyone can recommend a garage/bodyshop that can do some repairs and then prepare and re-spray it, that would help, forget the mechanical stuff, it's not urgent, except perhaps for re-hanging the door, i'll just have to sort that stuff another way.

Toopy you quote overly expensive specialists  having premises and equipment is quite an expensive hobby you average size establishment costs

1 rent/rates electric water £400
2 ramp inspections/ insurance, compressor insurance/ inspections maintenance £100
3 pat testing
4 customer car insurance £120
5 say 3 technicians wages including employers contribution NI, Paye and now work place pensions  £650 each

All weekly amounts = about £2500 a week so thats £500 a day to go in the till then theres the boss who hasn't taken anything yet and the accountant wants a slice to

Terry I feel your pain, Im self employed remeber

I presume you deal with modern machinery mostly and the Zed's are a hobby, occasional side line as far as day to day work is concerned?

When i said specialists, i was thinking more of 4ways and £70+vat an hour labour charge, i presume, possibly wrongly that your average independent garage/workshop is charging more around the £45+vat mark for labour?

...........so thats £500 a day to go in the till..........

Quite an eye opener Terry and before your 'cut'.

Just imagine the overheads of a Nissan Main Dealer - of course they have Sales to support the workshop.

Around me farmers and land-owners are diversifying i.e. lots of little engineering workshops, solar panel farm, fishing pools etc. More money in it than farming. As I said I found a perfect place but it was £4k/year. However I know what would happen, I'd fill it with cars/spares off ebay and then end up without space again - done that before with Anglias/VW campers.

I can certainly recommend the guys that prepared & resprayed mine last year. They specialise in Classic car restoration so they do the lot and have done some fantastic work on some high end marques. Wasn't cheap but they took 4 panels including roof, bonnet, tailgate and scuttle back to bare metal and remoulded some damage on the bonnet. I saved myself a bundle by stripping down myself and they trailered it to their premises as part of the service. You can see the results from pics on my gallery but I am well happy with the finished product..

I have also had very positive comments from members that have seen it in the flesh at a couple of meets.

Problem is, that they are in Bristol so not local to you.

Toopy, maybe a bit of research on garage labour rates before saying that Fourways are steep at £70 + VAT an hour. Google is your friend.
