Re-locating boot lock on 280zx

My lock protrudes about an inch in the middle of tail gate, and my new square numberplate has arrived which is 8.5" in height, which means the lock is in the way.

I'm guessing this is the standard place for a boot lock on all 280's, but wanted to know if the lock can be moved anywhere else..?

The boot lock is normally enclosed and completely covered by the substantial licence plate lamp housing. Is this missing and, if so, how do you illuminate your licence plate?

I've now taken the bumper off and getting the rear smoothed out, this is a close up of the lock taken out -

Well I used to have this on the back -



That explains the protruding lock. Do you reckon there's a way of re-locating the lock completely so I can fit my square plate?

I think that it would be easier and cheaper to locate an original lamp and have a plate remade!
