I take my hat off to you Wyn, I really do!

I once did the same on a 205GTi I spun on a wet road ... my insurance back then wouldn't have put up with ANOTHER claim! It was already costing me a fortune back then (early 90s) ...

Collected the parts, had a friendly garage do the body and paint and then reassembled everything with my dad in his garage.

Your insurance policies might go up a bit but won't be anywhere near what you've paid for the parts on the car Wyn or getting it fixed. That's what insurance is for!

Its only just started the process of getting it fixed, delays with insurance and accident management company, it's not fully settled yet, will still have to go to court but the claims company are confident of win, enough that they have given the go ahead for the work.

I just got the keys to my house in late March so I've been busy with that and not had much time for the car.

Sadly when our second car got swiped by an unknown truck while parked on a public road, I merely asked the insurance company what the options were and before I knew it Admiral wrote the car off and then all my insurances including the Z went up. No claims protection's kinda is a joke when the insurance goes up 50%!!

They auctioned the car and guess what, its back on the road.

So I'm with Wyn on this one!

When I wrote a car off a few years ago, they paid out the value and gave me the option of buying the car back for 10% of the write off value. I've got that agreed in writing on my current cover. Once I got the car back on the road I lost my no claims but it only added £250 for the year to the insurance. In the end I made a profit as the cost of works on the car were no where near its write off value. I know not every case is the same, but wyn must have spent thousands getting this back on the road - the insurance won't have jumped that high if he had claimed.

well done wyn on a job well done!

ive had to repair my own motor (scirocco) when i had someone reverse into the side of me.
even though i was heartbroken when it happened i did get a sense of satisfaction fixing it and knowing it was done right to my own standards.
there was a great sense of comradery when other members of the club turned up with spares and to lend a hand.
now get out there and enjoy it:driving:
