Not good reading I am afraid Sean............

I am currently arguing with HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) over £41,000 that they have of mine but the thieving, snidey, nasty f***ers won't give back. As a result my business is in trouble and cash flow is tight. ie I am skint.

The engine is in the UK, the shell is done, everything is ready to bolt together and paint apart from needing suspension, brakes and wheels still ....

I have sold the brand new shell now but have not sold any of the panels I have ... thought I had better keep them for a rainy day. The shell Laurence built is sat waiting to have things bolted to it.

You need the services of a good taxman to get back your cash;)

Sorry to hear that Andy - if you ever think of passing on the Sam. stuff - my 1970 shell could do with some history......:D

Seriously, I didn't know things were so sticky - I just noticed that it was a thread with no recent comments, was in a beligerent mood and decided to nag ! Sorry, real sorry and hope you get it sorted and get that car on the road so I can thrash you:rolleyes: !

I hope you've got the shell under cover - zinc or not - they don't like exposure !

What're you missing re suspension and brakes - what're you putting on her and what wheels too ?

Did you finally decide upon a colour ? C'mon, keep the faith - don't lose hope now all the hard works' done !

Thanks Guys - Datsfun........ am interested and intrigued :) any suggestions ? :) It is the dreaded VAT I am fighting.

Sean,

The faith is still there, just not the money right now - unfortunately F**d (four letter word) have ruined the master plan by putting ASBO orange on the focus - in fact that is almost exactly the colour I originally had in mind. Can't do it now, too many Novas, Corsas and Clios being done in it.

I am thinking along the same lines, what was an original colour that could be done in a modern way ? Maybe allsorts. Like candy apple red, emerald green, dark pearlescent blue. I also like the Lambo lime green.

Brakes will be Wilwood, not as good as AP but a fraction of the price and still very very good, more than good enough for the likes of MY driving ability :D - lots of people I know have them and swear by them.

Wheels are most likely going to be the same as Sato San's (Work Meister S1) shod with soft and stickies. Most likely 17" but possibly 16.......

Suspension - bit of a toss up ....... serious engineer advising tokico and overtubes, fairly cheap, well tried and tested - ohlins offering custom built stuff - huge difference in price but I am not knowledgeable enough to understand the difference it will bring to feel, confort and handling. Either way, they will have to wait until I get doshed up again.

You may well thrash me ...... all I would do is put the other 4 plug caps on and thrash you back :D Might even use third gear too :D The reality is my car ought to be more powerful than my driving ability can cope with so it will be interesting....... can quite believe I will get whooped by lower power cars but I will still have a grin a mile wide.

Our cars will be like chalk and fromage - pity we can't have both really.

Life is a compromise (except for the very lucky/wealthy) and even they pay the price....

Reduce your horizon and get the car running - mine is on Tokicos and bro she sticks - also has Daves' Wilwood kit and discs on the back and she stops !

Go for 16s - 17s aint for Zs - too large unless you want the latest hotwheels look !

Colour ? Always a personal choice but for gods' sake, choose something which will ALWAYS please you !

As for thrashing me - I look forward to it - people with less power can always be quicker than you (Rob Gaskin had me at JapFest) but with more experience of tracks AND the car, you might read the stickers on my hatch glass .......

But that's the spirit boy - never say die !

And I quote Ozzy Osbourne :

"Don't you ever, don't ever say die...."

"It's not how you play the game, it's if you win or lose, you can choose, don't confuse, it's up to yooooooooooooou"

Little Angels :

"So stand up and fight for your lives, no surrender and no compromise..... when desire it burns in your eyes... you gotta stand up, stand up and fight for your lives"

Saxon :

"Never surrender, when your back's against the wall, never surrender, stand up and fight them all"

Being a crinkly old fart rocker I could on for hours ..... best stop now

Little bit of an update.....

Left the engine at the importers for the last couple of months while I have been doing battle royal with HMRC (read THIEVES), about huge amounts of VAT rebate - looks like I have won albeit I do not know to what degree yet :D

I fetched the engine on Wednesday and was asked what it was for..... told the forklift driver expecting ...."yeah, I had one of those.....it was a Samuri". Instead I got... never heard of it but it sounds like the ones the bloke over there in that shed has got .... went to have a look and sure enough there was a 260 and a 240... met Tel240z .... top bloke !!!!
Thanks for making me welcome Terry ... most people just throw stuff ..:conf2:

Have to say, the engine is mint, I only just avoided the temptation to lick it :D

Spoke to Laurence yesterday who is now fighting the e-coaters on my behalf as there seems to have been an air pocket inside the roof and the e-coating has started to bubble, not on for something with 10 years guarantee or whatever it is. The plan is to get them to recoat it, then lead load where appropriate and straighten out the few dinks that are in the quarters and the roof now .....then onwards and upwards.

A very credible engineer has slapped me about a bit and told me with the power I have NOT to use tubular wishbones but to use reinforced standard ones .... who am I to argue ?? He has also suggested I sell my Arizona Z billet moustache bar in favour of a spring steel Kameari one.

Alan Thomas supplied me with a superb 3.9 NISMO LSD diff a while ago but again, on advice from those that know about this stuff (you know who you are ) I will be replacing the NISMO LSD at some stage soon with the Quaife ATB. I have already got the companion flanges (Diff and Hub sides) from Laurence which are built like a brick lavatory, last night we sorted out fully CV jointed driveshafts and gaiters which will arrive by the end of July. These, like the companion flanges are the ones that go on the Safari cars and are supposedly nigh on indestructable. Something to do with grade of steel used .... not sure whether it is the emperor's new cloithes but terms like F1 and figures like "rated to 1000BHP" have been bandied about. Either way, I should not break them

Left to get :

Billet aluminium hubs
Brakes
Wheels & tyres
Engine fitting kit
Custom prop shaft
Fuel cell
Radiator
Custom stainless exhausts
Adjustable platform coilovers

All of the rest is brand new, boxed and waiting (looms, brightwork, glass, trim, switchgear etc). There will be lots of little odds and sods like the battery etc, and as we all know I will need to save up for the cost of the paint and interior trim but most of the bits are now assembled in a big heap, time to get the car build underway ....... It will not be taken back to the e-coaters for about two weeks then God only knows how long it will stay there but when it comes back the build should start.

27 months and I still do not have the finished shell......................... fortunately other stuff has been bought, sourced, decided upon etc in the meantime so when it gets to build time it should move fairly quickly.

One battery ? You going classic and keeping it in the engine bay then.......?[/quote]

Don't be silly :D Two small race type batteries inside the car behind the seats .....thought you knew me better than that :D

Mine tasted of oil

ok, ok, ok ..... so I licked it...... tasted of sawdust from the packing crate, faint taste of oil and a very metallicy aluminium type flavour. Had to try a few times to make sure I had it right.
