Oil slinger (or not)

Hi all,
further to my timing chain fun, I'm now thinking about putting it back together again.
I read in my 'How to Modify your Nissan & Datsun OHC engine' the interesting 'note' under Engine Assembly:
Note: Do not install a crankshaft oil slinger

so - my question for those of you've who've assembled these engines, did you put the slinger on? what is the benefit of not putting it on?

I'm no expert Jon but. I belive they can cause issues where the damper mates up, witch can cause the bolt to loosen?
