As you can see, the panel gaps are pretty damn near perfect!

A lot of fettling has been done today making sure everything fits perfect and is bolted in place, before being taken off, and taken back to metal to paint.

Hopefully car going into paint on Monday/Tuesday......

I should have it back at the end of next week.

Not been to see it in a few days, so I might go over Monday to get some updated photos. .

:).

Also tossing up between riv nuts fir the wide arches or to juat tiger seal bond them onto the body.

I am leaning towards tiger seal, as I do not want to put holes back into the now lovely bodywork!

I understand the pro’s and cons of both, but I ask the question...... Am I actually going to want to remove them at any time? Probably not...... So might aswell just bond them on....

Insight?

ive heard a few people say 3m double sided tape (the thicker one with a foam like middle to take up gaps) is better than tiger seal as it holds better and if you need to remove it again a thin knife can be used to cut through it.
only what ive heard though as ive not tried it myself.
tiger seal is great but takes ages to set and if you get it wrong is a pain to get back off again.

When he takes the panels back to bare metal, you should ask him to do it in a way that’s not so aggressive as with the rear 3/4, it looks like a lot of heat was transferred which needed the whole area to have a skim of filler.

Welcome back Don, still ruffling feathers I see. For christs sake please protect those strut tower caps.

Another pat on the back towards that cliff edge then?

Some of us are commenting on what we see and read and - having been there and done that - can tell that the words and pictures are not necessarily matching up, EG:

Do you see any perfect panel gaps?

This is not "ruffling feathers". It started as farce being played out in slow motion (the clues were there in the wrong master cylinder sub plot), and it has been slowly developing into tragedy.

If this was all playing out next door to you, would you still be clapping him along over the garden fence? The comment about the strut tower caps is a perfect example: Rather than actually protect some of the best parts of this car (for a ha'penny's worth of tar), you seem to be encouraging him to let the interior get damaged as though it's some kind of moral victory against the nay-sayers?

You're waving back to him from shore, but he's drowning.

Here's some insight: Don't fit them at all. Throw them away. They are generic, universal 'one size fits nothing' junk, as pointed out way back in the thread.

If you insist on having 'overfenders' on the car, for not very much money you can buy copies of the overfenders that Nissan designed specifically for the S30-series Z. They usually fit properly and look a whole lot better than any of the 'universal' stuff. They would be a much wiser choice than those you have already got.

Actually I measured the arch points before I bought the arches.

They are not cheap ****.

Very thick, great quality and strong.

And I do not like the z flares!

I wanted flares that sat under the body line! Not over it!

Measured what though? As a couple of us observed and commented, your rear arches were still cut into ribbons at that point.

As was also pointed out up-thread, proper use of such appendages can only be made if you cut the original rear arch lips away for wheel/tyre clearance. If your 'universal plastic flares' are not fitted in the right place (and I don't see how they can have a 'right place'...) and you don't cut the rear arch lips then they will be pretty much pointless in any practical sense as well as being aesthetically compromised*.

Your 'reference point' cars (like the ice blue, white-striped car in post #1788) are all pretty much on the floor, whilst yours won't be able to get anywhere near it. It's going to have to sit high to stop the tyres touching the body. In fact it'll probably sit so high that you'll need oxygen...

Haven't you got anybody looking over your shoulder and advising you on stuff like this?

*not that this seems to be a problem for you...

Every Forum needs a Thread like this it's so entertaining.

Even the car at the start was just 'unreal'.

The TV producers should have followed this instead of 'Salvage Hunters'.

Keep it coming Don, your positive personality comes over well and Albrecht's little gems always add spice.

It would also appear that one on't cross beams gone owt askew on treddle.

The Python stuff is all well and good up to a point, but where do you actually stand?

Seems to me that you are giving awards to snowflakes for their Part Number One+1=3, whereas I'm of the opinion that a bit of tough love is more constructive.

And by the way, you've got to expect that all this MP stuff will go right over the head of Tonto over here.

Personally I'd have had all the core plugs out by now. It probably needs filling with Cillit Bang rather than anti freeze.
