Richie, you're being too quick to judge - wheels, interior and engine bay look totally original ;)

BTW did you spot the pop up lights!?

To be fair, one doesn't have to kill the whole car with fire; just rip off all the fibreglass and burn that to dust. Then one can see if the rest is salvageable...

    I just bought this!!!

Just joined the forum when I saw you guys had mentioned the car in question.

I just bought it as my next project.

Yes I want to make it mostly original too including putting back the original front lights.

    Non runner.

    Not viewed it.

It looked pretty original underneath the exterior fibreglassing from the photo's.

But hopefully when I get it delivered this week it will be good and mostly rust free.

    Wish me luck.

    My name is Antonio.

    I have an MR2 Turbo.
    A Celica GT4 ST185 Spec-A
And another red GT4 which is for sale.

MR2 is currently waiting for me to build the engine!!!!
    700HP capable!

    Thanks.

Will upload pics when it arrives.

    :)

Might need a new bonnet and front and rear bumpers .etc to convert back to standard'ish....

I assume parts are readily available second hand?

I like wide arches, generally the riveted on type, but these might be okay... Will probably leave them on there and work with them.

One assumption to far I'm afraid.....but isnt that the sort of thing you should find out prior to purchase

Any significant body panel will be difficult/spendy (compared to many classics such as Escorts or MG's)
Some will be almost impossible to source.

Lets not forget there are only a handful of these cars in the UK

    Good luck

Bonnet, i believe is second hand only, unless your going carbon fibre!

Serviceable second hand bumpers rarely come up for sale.

Bumpers no longer available new in chrome, but are available new in stainless steel, which by all accounts are excellent value for money.
Although saying that, im not sure if they do the 2+2 rear bumper

    fibre glass bonnets !

The Harrington s/steel bumpers do not fit the 2+2 but you can always fit fibre glass ones as well.

Don't forget that there are differences between early and late cars.

So you are keeping with the body as is? Standard bumpers wont fit then. Fiberglass is probably the way to go then maybe bond them into the existing kit.

    UPDATES WITH SMILES!!!!!

    :D

Spent a whole day on it today, Full service, everything new, the works!!!
Although my gearbox oil still not arrived... ><. Hmmmm..

    Anyway.

It had no spark, nothing anywhere. Wires had been chopped to put front pop ups in.. (I had tots of fun getting those off quickly!) Turns out they are from an MR2, so I will be keeping tose as spares for mine.

Anyway, with aid of the original wiring diagram, my dad, and the interested Ice Cream Van Man..... Looooool. Spark gradually worked its way towards the spark plugs... Courtesy of my newly numb hand!

And so the Z fired into life after being stood for 10 years...
(With the help of V-Power!) only V-Power.

Now it starts first turn of the key...

    :)

    "Z from the dead".

Think that is a decal I will put in the back window when finished...

Also, rust not too bad underneath, worst of the rust is near the front wings.

Going to opt for a bare metal restoration and resorayed in the original copper bronze colour with 2 racing stripes painted on in silver/graphite down the body.

    Got a video.

    Will post up on youtube.

    Also, forgot to add.

Taking body back to original, then going to go down the route of original rear bumper/lights, original wings with smoothed to the body riveted wide arches, and samuri or airdam equivalent front bumper.

    Should be SEXY!!!

Engine and running gear are going to be kept original.
