Thanks Johny. That helps to understand

But even with the belt reel removed I'm sure the floor layout appears different.?

The real is inserted into a recess I'm pretty sure. Can't take a pic as the car's not here

So the car is ready to come home to be rebuilt! Scary times for me. I'm picking it up this week after a few little things are finished such as painting the inside of the doors etc.

I'm really unsure weather to fit the cage or not as I've heard some people have gotten a crease in the roof from it? Can anyone comment?

Front splitter is all painted gunmetal to match the spoiler and rear light surrounds!

    Looks lovely.

I think the crease in the roof problem was with Safety Devices first roll-hoops. They modified the design when they fitted one to my old track car.

However the decision is 'do you really want a roll-hoop'? It can affect practicality, seat position and resale value. For motorsport yes.

Looks awesome! Can't wait to see it in the flesh. When do you expect to have it on the road?

You may have said elsewhere and I apologise if you have, but what is your main reason for wanting to put a cage in? Aesthetics, or safety?

Thanks guys and thanks Rob for your really helpful PMs! I have decided to keep the cage out for the mean time and have a think about if I want to put it in at a later stage. To be honest uk66fastback it was a bit of both. I thought it might add some structural rigidity in a side or rear impact but they do also look incredibly cool!

Russell I haven't forgotten about your suspension I've still got it here! Hopefully want it done for the end of the summer but knowing me that will run into next summer!

There's loads of room to the roof with it fitted, I've about 3/4 of an inch. It won't affect resale as its bolt in, period correct, does help tie the car together at the rear.

I don't get how it makes the car less practical?

    Looks great too.

Do you have any photos of it fitted franky that would be a massive help!

I'll have a dig through, failing that i'll get some as its sat on its mounts in my shell ATM.

I really can't see the negative aspect of having it.

Oh my! What a great thread.

I've just read it all the way through and I'm so impressed with progress. The car looks great already.

    I am jealous!

Adam, If you are passing Cheshire again soon you can have a look at my white 240Z with cage fitted to get a good idea of fit etc.

I like the look of a rear cage in a zed. Gives it a more purposeful look. A full cage is a pain for a road car and you have the big issue of hitting your head on the front parts of it without a crash helmet on.
