I'm not disputing his knowledge of the car but just because he knows his stuff is no excuse to be condescending to others, if getting help from him means having to take it in the ass then I'd rather go without.

There's a great quote in the latest Clint Eastwood movie Gran Torino - "Sometimes you meet someone you just shouldn't f**k with". One day someone may come along with more detailed knowledge of the early Z cars but I wouldn't expect it to happen any time soon. You asked for advice got it free of charge, so stay cool and get that Z back on the road!

His advice comes with a price as far as I'm concerned. I can't actually believe you're telling me not to f**k with him, I'm starting to see that apparently some people can f**k with others and it's totally ok.

You're somehow not getting the message here :

no-one's ****ing with you, just pointing you in the right direction with hints etc AND reminding you of what has alreadly been ascertained as fact, not opinion. Agreed, that perhaps some methods of communication are more 'entertaining' than others but are you looking to mate or get your car fixed ? This is a commercially dis-interested non-club member who's gone out of his way to copy down and GIVE you the info you need to solve a problem caused by a specialist supplier, whoever makes these springs !
Mike, I assume, merely sent the order based upon the info you gave him...which, places the responsability back on you and if you'd asked the question (s) BEFORE embarking on the purschase, you'd have avoided all this and been further down the line of getting your car running.:)

Have you never had an 'exchange' with someone then got on famously with them later, but without telling them to **** off ?

Chill, learn, apply !.........or put it another way, don't bite the hand that feeds you !

ps Marco - "One day someone may come along with more detailed knowledge of the early Z cars but I wouldn't expect it to happen any time soon." You're a lot more optimistic them I !

I am clearly failing to communicate. Perhaps I chose the wrong quote, but it seemed pretty good at the time. I'm not suggesting anyone does or doesn't f**k with anyone. I am suggesting that we respect each other and remain aware that the same words written or spoken can be interpeted in very diferen't ways and that life is to short to get wound up unneccessarily.

Fair point marco, but if I see someone with a problem then I see it only as an opportunity to help them get it sorted rather than an opportunity to belittle them and force the 'I'm better than you' mentality. I'm sure you and everyone else in the club would do the same. I respect everyone until they give me a reason not to.

Sean, it's more the fact he enjoys talking down to others so much. He does it to pretty much everyone on here, and I know for a fact others secretly agree with my opinion of him but don't want to cause a stir, just because that's how it is around here.

And to be honest I don't see how I could have anticipated the extent of the problems I've had with these springs; they were advertised as dropping the car 38mm which is pretty specific so I didn't see any cause to worry.

Hey man, dunno why you're apologising, you're just trying to keep the peace! But I'm certainly not going to apologise for anything I said on the previous pages of the thread, I hope you understand.

In fact I still haven't seen Gran Torino yet, it's high on the to watch list though.

Does it to me too and has been much tougher on me but elsewhere I give back as good as I get without swearing - the main thing is to have a laugh, acknowledge and welcome wisdom however it is GIVEN and never, ever expect people to behave as we would like them to - what a boring place that would be !

There is no peace to be kept here - The Count answers to no-one - he isn't a club member !:p

Perhaps this would be a good time for these others who "secretly" agree with you to pipe up? What's the reason for them keeping it "secret"....? I think you're confusing a general dislike of my perceived schtick with the simple matter of whether I'm right or wrong.

You should take a few minutes to read back through this thread and reappraise your opinion of it. My first post expressed disappointment at your "don't care" attitude, but also offered you some ( hopefully useful ) hard data and a little advice. And no, I didn't expect you to 's*ck me off' ( I see your later comments have been edited out by a moderator ). Those thoughts originated in your head and you should take responsibility for them. It would be better if you kept such thoughts in your head, and if you have a problem with any of my input on this forum I suggest that you would be better advised to report it to the moderators and/or put me on your 'ignore' list ( so that none of my posts will be visible to you ).

It takes two to tango, and I could easily claim that you have tried to dish out just as much as you've been accusing me of giving. You ask for help and advice, and yet you don't seem to really want the help. Is this just a letting-off-steam thread? You profess not to care about an aspect of the situation that could well be pivotal, apparently dismiss advice that would help you to identify the struts on your car, and you're not even referring to the most basic sources of data for your particular model. Is it any wonder that I would point that out and try to encourage you to do a little better for yourself?

I think you brought your own (mis)conception of what makes me tick to this thread, and tried to make a big deal out of it. You say that you stand by everything you wrote ( presumably you still stand by the part that has been edited out by the moderators ) and I stand by everything I have written too ( none of which has been edited or deleted ). If you're feeling that you have been "belittled" then I'm sorry as that is not my intention, but I feel you have painted yourself into that corner. Your choice....

Any perceived "I'm better than you" mentality is in YOUR head, I'm afraid. I'm not going to take any responsibility for it.

Last piece of 'advice': Long ago I was offended by a reply to one of my posts, a reply which I found offensive. After protesting, I was told by a no-nonsense Australian to "grow a skin". I now think it was good advice.....

It was never about whether the information you posted was right or wrong.

My inbox disproves the theory that it's all in my head.

Maybe you should avoid me as I plan to avoid you, I don't particularly enjoy p!ssing contests.

Yeah, words. As opposed to voices, which are in your head.....

My inbox disproves the theory that it's all in my head.

Who cares what's in your 'Inbox' ( or what's in mine )? If anyone's got anything that's worth saying, let them say it here and now.

.........err, I think that considering that rhinos are culled for the supposedproperties of their horns, the wearing of one in such a posture is offensive to all animal lovers and wild-life fans in particular...if anybody sees this man in their neighbourhood, please, please help the rhinos by running him over !I also consider it in bad taste by a responsable member of the club to be seen supporting such culling...........unless it's strictly for medical reasons of course.

Although I hate to say this ( as I am as guilty as the rest with my Rhino thick skin post)
this thread is in the technical area and has gone completely off topic and the exceelent advise and discussion has been somewhat hidden amongst the general banter that has arisen can we please try and get it back on track

And yes I suppose I am coming across as a bit of a killjoy
