How to spot if a S30 shell matches the VIN

This seems like it would be a useful resource to potential members and Z buyers, to know what you can easily look at, that's not easy to cover up, to tell if the shell matches the VIN / Model.

To start off:

From my very basic knowledge, an early 240z shell (Up to 1970) should look like this:

1970-datsun-240z-project-for-restoration-1.jpg

With holes behind the seats and holes in the rear shelf. VINs for these cars are usually up to around HS30 001500 / HLS30 020000.

A later (1971 on) 240z shell will look like this:

With hatches in the flat area and no holes behind the seats. VINs for these cars are usually up to around HS30 100000 / HLS30 170000

If anyone can add to this for the other models / correct me, please do!

Please note, the purpose of this thread is to help buyers identify mismatches not to discuss the morality/legality of VIN mismatches.

Great idea of posting photos to educate any potential purchaser what to look for. Can I ask that this gets extended to cover all years for 1st generation UK cars.
