hey guys...first annoying question of many im sure...:(...have searched around a bit and im just looking to clarify if i am correct in thinking a fuel tank out of a 78 260 will not fit into my 75 260?? im in a bit of a bind..parts are impossible to source over here and im mad to get driving me z this summer! i have located aforementioned 78 tank in England, but seems pointless if it wont fit...any suggestions?

Hi welcome to the club.
Seems like there are a lot of zeds over in Ireland, certainly more than there are in Scotland.
Anyway
I think it should fit ok, if uk spec?
I think only the 2+2 has a bigger tank, but I may stand corrected!:)

There are several differences between a 240Z tank and a late 260Z tank - shape, straps, pipework, filler pipe and fuel sender. Not to say it absolutely won't fit, but not worth the aggravation. 2 seater and 2+2 tanks are the same, year by year compared.
If you can find a 73/74 260Z tank it would be a perfect fit and only has one minor difference in pipework (larger diameter return pipe!).
Note that USA tanks which may be offered have additional connections but these can be capped.

The fuel tank design changed in September 1975 for UK models, so a 77 tank should be the same as a 75.
Easy spotter's guide - 240Z / early 260Z tank has drain plug in centre; Sept '74 onwards has drain plug over to one side...
Also, later tank has large raised circular section on upper surface.

thanks mr.f., so, your saying that if my drain plug is at one side and not the centre, i should be ok with the tank from the 77?

Why dont you buy a 78 zed that way you wont have any fitment problems, sorry about that couldnt resist

Only an early one if I understand correctly what Mike is saying above. Also seems to have a lot of nozzles that my early 260 tank doesn't and is being sold alongside a LHD steering rack so I'm guessing it's an American one which'll need the additional connections blanking off as Mike mentioned. "very good condition" seems a touch optimistic given you can see scabby rust patches on it.

im starting to think this is gonna be harder than i thought..and i agree with you tim, a bit optimistic...anyone have an idea of the cost to fabricate one from aluminium or stainless?

What he said
I paid that for one made by pro alloy

Very nice it is to and no issues to date

Hi Irishzed, joe from up North here, if you still have your original tank Fueltankrenu in Portadown can refurbish it for you for a fraction of the cost.Great job ...mine has been done over ten years no probs at all.
