is it easier to remove the engine and tranmision in one or is it better to separate them in the engine bay and remove one at a time?
same question for instalation?
im a bit concerned about scratching the hell out of the transmission tunnel trying to remove as one
obviously separating them first is twice as much work.

I'd take the other view, if you've got the room to extract them both together. Although I'd say an essential piece of kit for it is a load leveller so that you can control the angle of the engine and transmission and thus minimise the risk of banging anything. I did it to my car years ago like that, and put it back in after new paint without a scratch. I will be pulling the engine and box on my new project like that shortly.

Agree with Rich, if you need want them both out together the load leveller on the hoist is a must ...

But easy to separate the two and take out as well ...

Your choice.
