Are the early E31 cylinder heads still disarable for tuning.
As I noticed that an engine /gearbox I have for sale has one fitted.

There is no 'best' head.

The E31 is an uncommon, desirable head that came on the first 10,00 or so 1970 240's. It's chambers were high-quench designs, however the valves were smaller than the 260 and 280 heads. After 46 years, most of them are long gone. 42cc chambers I believe. It uses an external oil spray bar.

Depends on its condition. Have you got it off the block to see how/if it's corroded? General condition?

They have soft valve seats so do need a full going over to get them up to spec.

I could be interested as a spare.

I have been collecting these heads for a few years as they are rare and good for a few points in compression. In the next few weeks, I will be taking one to a local engine builder for port and polish as well as larger valves. In addition to a large lift cam, I am hoping this combination will be good for some extra HP.

Will try to start a thread on these heads in the next few weeks or so.

I would hang on to it for now.

Cheers
