Diff front mount plate

Hi , Does anyone know the purpose of the 1/4 inch steel plate bolted to the forward diff mount on my 240Z,The diff is now a quaffe fitted R200 , Does the plate serve a function , I guess it must but what ?, can it be removed ?

It was kind of rhetorical really, with a hint of sarcasm

You asked if anyone has taken it off, when the reality is that there probably isn't an S30 out there with it on.

...hence my short (daft) answer.
