Cylinder Head question for a 280zx

I picked up a spare head from Geoff Gale in Bristol today, his last N42. It will go off for testing and cleaning up on Tuesday, so will see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestions and help tracking this down!

Good news! Glad to hear you got something sorted. Hopefully once cleaned up it'll just need surfacing and other basic measures and you'll be able to build it up without too much hassle.

Got an update on the replacement head I sourced. I haven been away on holiday, so didn't chase it until today.

So, it has been tested and is fine. The guy needs to remove three snapped off studs, but other than that it looks good. Should be back with the mechanic early next week.

Well, the Zed is still at the garage... but it's getting there. I went down to have a look today. The refurbished, replacement head, is back on the car. There was a delay with the machine shop guy which did not help, plus when they went to refit the head the gasket that I supplied it was missing some of the waterway holes.

I had double checked it was the right version with Mr F, so not sure what happened... Once I get it back I will post some pics for reference. Fair play my mechanic managed to sourced the right head gasket version, but it all just takes time and money... and now I am starting to sweat about the total cost, and its not done yet.

Finally picked up the Zed this morning! Only drove it for a couple of miles back home, but seems fine. Will take it for a test drive tomorrow. Total bill was not too steep either, so worth the wait.

Quick update... went for a decent run, about 50 miles, at the weekend and it's running fine. A lot smoother than before (obviously). I did notice it is coming up to temperature a lot quicker than before too. I guess this is because it has been cleaned out and it is running at the correct pressure with no leaks. Will keep an eye on the coolant and oil, but so far so good.

Hope I can finally get the body work looked at next. I have booked a place at the Concours of Elegance at Windsor Castle (with my local club BADCCC) so it needs to be done or they won't it me in! Obviously I won't be parked with the Astons or Bentleys, but a bit further down the Long Walk.

OK, so the replacement head is still fine and running well.

Question: Now I have done a few hundred miles does the head need torquing down again? What is the 'official' advice?
