Broke my driveshaft

I use(d) the wolf creek racing setup
Conceptually they are right, however in practice they are not manufactured with close enough tolerance and quality for my liking.
I ended up having the shafts re made by Elite and 4 new CV joints from GKN (the kit uses some nasty cheap Empi ones with loads of slack)
That leaves very little of the original kit left over.
Hopefully it should be back on the car in the next week or so.
It has a major advantage over any of the stock shaft solutions in that when using an R200 diff suspension compression on the rear left hand side will bottom out a stock shaft exponentially stiffening the suspension and creating unpleasant understeer as the stock shafts are slightly too long ( when used on a lowered car in any sort of spirited driving)

Not at that time of night

Can't you repost it during the day :D

Doesnt matter really, I was going to gripe about the thread following the inevitable and predictable banter that you get when you fit 30 year old parts in a high performnce scenario and they (suprise suprise) break.

And that If you want a setup to handle big torque then get a custom setup made, I have one, its from wolf creek, I have had it for 5 years, its not made very well, splines are a lose fit and the CV joints are cheap, but conceptually its the right idea, I believe (may be wrong) that Nissan homologated a similar setup many moons ago.
I have had new splined shafts made and (when they arrive) I will use some GKN plunge joints, this should make it a very strong setup

But it was pointless as no one actually reads anything (the evidence being that its all been said before either on the forum or elsewhere), plus no one wants to spend more than a fiver but you all expect top flight performance.

But then all of this got superceeded by the posting of a of link to a water main flange, plus the wolf creek shafts and everyone getting excited

Your such a fickle bunch:p

Skiddy, Sounds like you got the ar5e again lol
Are you able to supply a bolt on kit for under a fiver?
If not how much?

Well as Skiddy (aka victor meldrew ;)) cant help with a kit for a fiver I thought I'd ask Star motorsport

You might want to sit down for this bit ....

Dear Wyn,
The stub axles are a part developed for the East African safari rally so have been extensively tested they are manufactured from a high grade material which is then stress relieved and heat treated.
The kit is designed for R200 long nose differential and does include the shafts although they are not shown in the picture the outboard stub axle has the larger 260z spline .
The kit is overkill for a road car at £3200.00 +v.a.t .... we are currently developing the same kit using a forging rather than a billet part these will be considerably cheaper but as yet not available.
Hope this helps,if you require any other parts just contact us and we will try and help

kind regards

Laurence Evans

Would be nice to see their road kit when available.
I might even be able to afford it :)

I think Ben Stapley has a contact who can modify the standard driveshafts, stronger UJ's and taking some weight out of them.

Could cost more that a £5, but possibly not as much as some of the other options.

I thought the std shaft broke at its sliding middle joint and not the outer uj's??

Heres another for you fiddly finger fickers :p

Yes I borrowed the pic but doesn't that look like a piece of machined metal welded to the back of a stock Z flange
Gotta be under a fiver ?

The Driveshaft Shop | Datsun 510 / 240Z 108mm CV Conversion Kit - Import Axles

or these

I'm not so sure about all this talk about 400 this and 500 that bhp IMO its more to do with inertia, the trucks that i repair have 500 hp and as much torque as you want with 60mm halfshafts turning a 3 and a half foot wheel with about 14 tons across its axle and a gross weight of 44 tons to see these pull out of a 30 degree loading bank the torque on the halfshafts is massive now your average z shaft is about 30mm probably good for lighting up the tyres at 60 mph in a 450 hp z with no breakages but a standard 240 say 150 hp rev to 5500 rpm side step the cluch pedal and see what breaks
