Brake problems, please helps UPDATED UPDATED

Hi guys , hoping someone can help with spongey brakes on my 260 , the car has 4 pots up front and a rear disc conversion !! What they are off i do not know ...

Anyway i have bled the brakes from rear to front and i think i got all of the air out , however the brake still travels to the floor and then locks up the front ..

I have also noticed that the brake warning light is on, on the dash !!

I have searched the forums and i am still unsure as to what the problem could be !!

Is it a matter of more bleeding ? Master cylinder prob ? Or this shutter valve i keep reading about but still havnt a clue what or wer it is ???

Any help much appreciated

1. The shuttle valve has almost certainly been displaced, triggering the warning light. Located on the chassis rail just below the brake master cylinder. The switch part can be removed and the valve reset to centre with a thin probe down the switch orifice.

2. The reaction disc in the servo may have been displaced if the servo was left kicking around the garage with no master cylinder attached or no means of securing the push rod in place...

The switch has an extension which contacts the side of the shuttle valve, earthing it through the body of the valve to the chassis and turning the light on. Although the manual says don't disassemble, the switch can be removed and the shuttle pin moved back to the central position. Make sure whatever caused the imbalance does not make it re-occur.

Hi guys thnx for replies the car is back from mot obviously i knew it was going to fail on this , , i can see the switch your talking about and i removed the top 17mm bolt and pulled out the pin , it looks like the the thing inside is sitting to the left (looking dwn onit) !

Do i need to remove it from the car to adjust it ? Still not quite sure what am doing with it :)

Also the car failed on rear brake disc warn and the parking brake as there not gripping the disc .. Will this be the cause of all the problems ??

Only problem i might have with this is finding out what disc have been used as i never fitted them ?? Is there a common conversion for the rear disc that there likely to be ? They are just a solid disc !!

Sorry to rammble on

Also the car has

There were several different types of Rear Disc Conversions available, so you'd best put a pic up and then everyone will be able to see it - and then you will have about a couple of dozen different theories & solutions in answer !

Simples.

Maybe the push rod isn't adjusted properly. I assume the master cylinder is a 15/16 unit from a 280zx? If it is then the push rod needs to be adjusted out to work with the S30 booster.

Is this mine/ MartinW old car (orange 2+2) or brake setup? If so might be worth asking him as to what he fitted ?
If not ignore the above

just popped in guys, mike will be rite with the shuttle valve but the is a 260 1 and has only had the 280zx master fitted the disc is fine. the front callipers are hilux and the discs are new pug 505 turbo re drilled. the rears you now know. but the discs on the rear were never machined and were not ment to be used for long just to set up really.

hope that a bit of help. feel free to pm if more is needed

it looks like the the thing inside is sitting to the left (looking down on it) !

You should be able to ease the ("thing") shuttle back to centre with a thin electrical size screwdriver or similar probe.

Also where is the reaction disc

Inside the servo - not a readily serviceable item - you nay need to try another servo, as no service parts are available for servos any more. Make sure push rod protrusion is correct for the master cylinder used. As a guide, 10mm protrusion beyond the mounting face of the master cylinder - varies with use of spacer or not...

I see you're selling up, a bit of a shame considering how little needs to be done to finish it off -- and the colour is really nice too. I would just throw a cover over it and save up the required money rather than give up at this stage.
