I think it's a great colour, especially with grey/bronze Watanabes:

My 432-R replica project car is 920.

You need to see 920 with your own eyes to judge. It seems almost impossible to take two photos where it looks the same shade...

A had a feeling it may be Daves colour and I do love it. Could be the one. Anyone have a modern paint code for this or the 918 so I can get a couple of spray cans made up of each.

918 is my other choice.

It was very popular with other non S30 Datsuns of same era...so have a look at pictures of old bluebirds, cherry 's, violets and you can see the colour albeit on other models of the family.

If mine wasn't 918 it'd be 920. You should go 920 to restore some balance to the force.

Alan - your car looks awesome. I'm in Dubai with work, i'll give you a shout when I get back about the round things.

Common misconception: Most of those Bluebirds, Cherries & Violets would have been #906 Safari Brown, #931 Yellow Ochre or #938 Ochre.

Similar, but not the same as #920.

I thought 920 was safari brown?

#920 was usually called 'Gold' in export markets.

It was sometimes nicknamed 'Safari Gold' or 'Safari Brown' in Japan, but that also gets it mixed up with #906 'Safari Brown' which is actually a darker shade.

I've got an early Glasurit paint swatch book I can show you if you are interested. Lots of rare and interesting old Datsun/Nissan colours in it, complete with their mix formulas.

I stand corrected.:)

# 920 is S30 specific. The "Safari brown" was #906 and I have just popped into my garage and checked the gold on my violet, it's #938.

That would be great Albrecht. Maybe have a look when you pop over for your bit.

I had noticed, on another forum, you called your colour 920 safari brown and that's what I then assumed it was.

I think it's definitely worth having a look at before you settle on your final colour choice. Will PM you now.

Yes, force of habit picked up in Japan. Sorry. That's why I think it's best to use the numbers rather than the names.

Briefly off-topic: Alan - how much more have you to do on the 432R replica? You can't be that far off now? I'd love to see it.

Plumbing (fuel) and wiring (Ignition system) mainly to do now. Just recently got the correct PZR type FRP front centre valance and under tray, and the valance needs to be painted body colour. Not that much to do if I could get around to it.

Should only be another couple of years now......;)

Talk about a slow-burn project! :p You are very patient Alan! Although given the very particular nature of the project, I guess it requires a certain amount of patience to acquire the requisite parts.

And then you have that other 240ZG to get started on! So that should be ready in about 15 years time? :D Of course, as a JDM obsessive desperate for another project, I'd happily take that one off your hands and get started immediately if you decide you haven't got the time!...

John, you and Terry seem to like the same colour cars (I have a blue one now too) so it's obvious to me that you need to have your second car the same colour as one of Terry's.

So it's just a matter of choosing Tango Orange or Lime Green - I'm sure he won't mind.
