p.s I can empathise with the shoulder issue, having had similar took me a long while to heal.

Yes, with no kine sessions whilst away on holiday, I'm having to swim several times a day in the pool....a right bitch !:D

But I was on morphine for the first 10days after the op....

Having looked at this subject in depth today, I've come to the following conclusions :

1) the system to be prototyped will be based upon my Street-sport 1 5/8'' exhaust manifolds

2) the 2.5'' exhaust line will be conceived for a 2+2 with a shorter part in its length for the few 2x seaters

3) 2 silencers and with an aim to keep the noise level 'sporty' but comfortable for distances, town-driving etc

4) a single pipe outlet and exiting only on the left hand side

Sorry for any disappointments - anyone wanting a twin-outlet can cut the end off and stick their choice on; anyone wanting a rh-side exit can also modify my exhaust rear but it won't be easy and I don't see ANY advantage whatsoever, rather the inverse !

I expect to a have the prototype finished by the end of November for factory/workshop appraisal and thereby available to buy around Easter 2017. Later than expected and I wanted but that's life  !

It has begun......!

Not much room :( in the engine bay of an early version.....but loads of space underneath and at the rear  !

The downpipe OEM appears to be very similar to that of the S30s.

I'm going to produce a header, exhaust line and a choice of two rear silencers - comfort and sport.

And.....a downpipe to link the OEM exhaust manifold to the new exhaust line !

Early S30 use a different flange pattern to late S30 and all S130.

Yes, thanks Mike - I won't be using one for the other but they are both two tiny pipes of 38mm internal diameter.

Firstly, thanks Huw for the photos and video - all info is useful.

Base parts sourced for the fabrication of the 280ZX prototype exhaust.

Evidently, we're looking to produce a circular centre box and oval rear where the shape is determined by the heat-shielding.

The prototype exhaust line is finally finished with :

*2-1 downpipe from the OEM cast-iron exhaust manifold

*2x seater and 2+2 versions

*fits early and late models

*2x silencers

*complete with fixing brackets

There remains to be defined which 6-2 exhaust manifold I'm going to use but I won't rule out two versions - one 'soft' and one 'hard' !

Getting there Sean. That tail pipe looks a bit long to me though.

What do you mean by 'hard' & 'soft' manifolds? Also, will you be able to fit one of you trick manifolds to the system at a later date if you decide to use the original manifold to start with??

Look forward to seeing the final product.

Thanks Huw - I'll double-check the tail-pipe but remember that it is aimed at every n/a model from 1979-83.

Soft....stock replacement and mild tune.
Hard - mid to high modification.......and if I had an OEM turbo manifold, I might be persuaded to produce a stainless one as well.

I believe that the above has just answered your question.;)

In this next batch there will only be:

5x manifolds and lines

5x downpipes and lines

And 2x of the former are already sold.

If these are all received well, in the next batch (Spring 2018) I'll be planning a lot more.

Both, for the same price, are available for 2x seaters and 2+2s - prices are set at :

Exhaust manifold and complete line (rear muffler included) : £920

Exhaust downpipe (from OEM manifold) and complete line : £732

Both suject to a 10% reduction for paid-up Z Club members.

Available from mid-August with a reminder that both exit on the LHside of the car.
