2017/18 calendar

I must admit I have to agree with Sean and Riddler

I'm not in any way trying to put off the great efforts I'm sure one if not several members have gone to do this (particularly when its included in the membership for free!) however I would suggest that single high quality images would portray a better image and ultimately give a better end product then various thumb nail images of varying quality.

A monthly competition is certainly a way to motivate individuals to share photos of their car that could be voted on or have an allocated judge/judges decide on a photo of the month for the calendar. If needs be there is also a huge swathe of people outside of the Z club with great cars and talent that I'm sure would love to be a part of it, if offered the opportunity.

I for one believe I sent in various high quality photos in Raw format that didn't get used (not complaining just an observation). I've just been out this weekend and taken several more that I would be happy to share. For example...

I'd be happy if I could be of assistance.

Great looking car.

As well as just using one great quality picture for each month, you could also try and cover the model range - so have a couple of 240s, a couple of 260s (including the 2+2), the 280, 280ZX, 300, Z32, 350, 370 etc etc. But it would need members to submit their pics - maybe by reinstating the picture of the month comp as Sean says. Don't think you would need to offer an incentive to members to do this - you would think the pride of getting their car on the calendar should be enough. Of course I no longer have a car to photograph. Get your camera out Tim!

The loss of the photo of the month competition is my fault I'm afraid. With my new family and extra work commitments I just couldn't find the spare time to maintain it.

The calendar was the driving reason for me creating the competition and it worked well for a time, although the amount of entries did dry up a little.

I would love it if someone would like to volunteer to restart the competition. It would certainly help give better (and new) picture options to put in the calendars.

Personally, i enjoyed the photo of the month, but i can understand why pics dried up, if the same core people on average are taking part,
people gradually lose interest. Who regularly takes decent photos of their car anyway, apart from a keen few (great pics nonetheless ;))
Maybe do a bi-monthly contest instead to keep people interested, not necessarily for high res shots, but run of the mill spur of the moment stuff we all take,
so as to keep people involved/engaged.

IMHO, a request for pics in say, July+August specifically for the calendar would be best, advertised loudly on the home page and
several stickies in the most popular forums

Forget the low quality gallery shots, if you want to see your car in print, contribute when requested and get some decent pics in.....simples

Too late to send a request then - gotta push from now onwards as people begin to get their cars out - doesn't have to be sunny shots either but agreed, high quality resolution photos only (not smartphones for the calender) - they might look good on small screens but blow them up to A5/A4 and there's too much 'noise' !

I like pictures that mean something to me or that show a car doing something or the car looking as if it's been used. So nice shiny pictures of cars standing still don't do it for me, you could get thousands of those off the internet.

This photo was taken during last year's 'Rally of the Tests' and it shows one of the two 240Zs taking part. The pub is a local pub in Eccleshall (near Stone Staffs) and one that my Dad and I have used. Also it is a 'Joules' pub and the original Joules Brewery is where my dad worked for many many years and we used to live 'on the brewery' in a brewery owned house. The Joules name is alive again and operating from a much smaller pub in Market Drayton.

So I love the car, it's on a rally, I like the pub and the brewery has many memories for me. I don't like static shots of clinically clean cars, just like I don't like to see such cars in museums, I like to see cars showing age and use.

The 'Monte' pictures mean so much because that is my old car and I can relate to the work I did on the car e.g. lying underneath it gas welding whilst my lad hit the floor down with a hammer.

The only photo which would appeal to all people Rob is the middle one that epitomises the MC Rally although I understand how the pub one would work for you personally.

I think I'll let Nissan take credit for that one ;) Although I am extremely proud of her!

You do know that the owners have had to drive said nice shiny cars to nice locations to take said photos ;) (note to self must get more obvious dirt indicating use on the car)

Couldn't agree more that I love action shots however for many these are quite difficult to come by with not many having personal photographers to accommodate this feat, or being in a position to enter competitions/events in race/rally spec vehicles (or willing to risk their road cars). Usually a lot of people go for a drive by themselves and take the photos at the destination etc making it a trickier task to get rolling shots.

Massive thumbs up to those that do have the cars and ability to enter events and share them though, I'm very envious of anyone in a position to do so.

Sounds like we should get another thread going now so that people can start sharing and collating their photographs in preparation for ext years. Makes it easier for people to update the thread as they go along, would be good to get a nice mix of all of the generations as well  (Would I be threading on anyones toes if I did so?)
