Can't disagree with Albrecht on this. A shame really because the guy has obviously spent a lot of money on getting it to where it is - but has he been lead down the garden path or been complicit?
I met the owner when we did the NC500 together with the CZR in 2019 and imo it's certainly a case of the garden path rather than being complicit.

All,

For the avoidance of doubt, this car was bought by Duncan Pearcey from Mr S Megarrell, Canada, in 2007. I bought it from Duncan Pearcey, as a suitable base for a pre 1970 rally car. The rules for Global Rallies “friendship rallies” required pre 70s cars. When “The Z Farm” set about re-building this car to their Marathon Rally spec, there wasn’t much of the original car that enabled or justified restoration. As the start date of “La Gira Andina” Rally approached, Duncan Pearcey was instructed to use whatever early parts he could to meet the deadlines. .

I would say if this was a conspiracy - the owner was very complicit . He was involved in giving the instruction - paying the bill and accepting the car for his rally.

It isnt like he tuned up and miraculously the shell had been switched and he happily trotted off non the wiser .

The z farm bought it and imported it .
He bought it from them as a suitable base for a pre-70 rally car .
When he then asked the z farm to rebuild it as a rally car - they said it was too far gone .

C'mon- im pretty sure that at the original purchase - they must have discussed the future build , otherwise would the owner not have kicked up a mighty stink ( having been sold the car by the person who now can't make the shell what was intended) rather than proceed - i would.

Id love to hear more on how he was lead up the garden path however . If he's that easily conned - i have a nigerian prince wanting his bank details for an exciting opportunity.

OK, perhaps nieve rather than complicit then. I really don't think he knew he was creating a ringer, although perhaps the some of the people who undertook the work may have...??

He'd have to understand, you think he would anyway?

I do agree, I'm sure he was also led up the garden path...... just looking at the spec you'd say he has been, ignoring the 'sound of the phone'
