Sean, if someone new to Datsuns buys it they may not appreciate the work involved and neither may their chosen garage. Also are they going to check the gbox over or try it as is? Is the diff a good match for an S14? The S14 is a great upgrade I agree. Had 3 cars with it.

    Evening from Glasgow

It amazes me how old these cars are. I went to California in 1977 and this car was outdated then by the 280Z. It seemed so long ago and now this car is going to start a new life over here. Modern cars are far better built these days but they will be scrapped much sooner due to the electronics...

It's a great car and the sort of car I would have been interested in a few years ago. My comments: LHD - not a big problem for a 'hobby' car (few miles) and often better to keep a car original. However in a RHD country it's not a strong selling point. Gearbox - selling a 240Z with a weak...

The car looks fantastic, I love it's look. Being completely honest there are 3 things that might be affecting the sale in the UK. LHD, gearbox, dash cover. What is the diff ratio? It's not a good time to sell a car atm.

As it happens I was talking to Paul Easter at a funeral yesterday. He co-drove on the Safari in the 70s in a works 240Z.

Yes, you need to bring it along again in it's 'refreshed' state. No slacking.

At least we don't have an 'F' on our cars!

    Changes to DVLA Historic status

I'm assuming that Etype (XK) owners were being 'stung' with a QPlate status if they had to replace the front spaceframe from the bulkhead forward, off which the engine and suspension hung? Qplate means 'kitcar'

    Where to service my Z?

Don't forget that modern garages don't like tappet adjustment or points adjustment and ign timing. Perhaps try 'Spinningwheel Classic Cars', Chesterfield?

What did you do to your Z this week?

Derrick, quick reply - cellulose in a single garage, no specialist kit. I'll give a better reply over the weekend. I'm away on holiday atm. My point is that these days restorers seem to want an Aston Martin paint job. Are we getting carried away?

Triple Weber DCOE 40 Emulsion tube quest.

Imo, if it will start but won't keep running then it's either being starved of fuel (pump/lines) or it's flooding (float needle valve/float level). If it's being starved test it with 'easy start' when it falters. If it's flooding block the fuel supply and see if it picks up.

What did you do to your Z this week?

So Derrick, from memory you have a spraying mate (Wiggi?) which helps. Your 280ZX paint is amazing. I THINK Rich is capable of a very good job because of his skills and attention to detail. He might get satisfaction from it too (or frustration), I have done many years ago. How much would you...
