It does look like you’re in the right area ish ,if I was you I would get some good quality duct tape and mask off an area both sides of the area you’ve already stripped leaving as much along that vicinity as possible then apply a good paint stripper on as much of the area not masked up may take...

If I was you I’d clean up all terminals blot back up and put the battery back on with correct wires to correct terminals and start it up if you’ve already done damage nothing will happen if not will start up and be fine unless you’ve blown fusible links ,or you could join the overthinking club 😉
