A bit of a left field suggestion how about one of the older mercedes (2000 ish) 3.2 straight six oil burners, plenty about, bullet proof 200 bhp as standard with enough torque to restart the earth turning, the nicest thing about them is they sound amazing.

New ball joint rubbers are as cheap as chips on flea bay. I also replaced the bolts that were fitted in the nipple holes (later 260z) with good quality nipples when I did my old 2+2

I use the suspension mounts, anywhere with sufficient thickness of metal basically, eg on the rear the anti roll bar mounts, on the front the tie rod to leg reinforced area.

Why not take your old tank to a aluminium fabricator and get them to make an alloy replica, I know a place in the Newark area that does it.

The early 280zx are similar to the 260z 2+2 , ie they rot in the same manner , value maybe a little less but not by much, where abouts in the country are you? Nice Jensen by the way
