71 240Z - New battery connected the wrong way around

The fusible link is that short middle wire to the solenoid with the plastic connector at the other end visible in the first picture.

240Z steering wheel - For sale

Yes. Usually just a good cleaning of the rim with some light sanding/scuffing and then clear-coating will bring them back to looking good. The colour really pops when under a fresh 2k lacquer.

Has anyone restored the seat runners?

You can buy DIY zinc plating kits to do the olive drab finish. But I would think most decent plating companies have the capability. The green is a passivate that the part is immersed in after the zinc plating stage, an alternative to dipping in the common yellow/gold or black passivates. I'll...

Has anyone restored the seat runners?

Just to exacerbate your perfectionism, if I remember correctly, the seat rails aren’t actually painted - that olive green is a type of electroplating. On the plus side, that means you could talk to your plater and see if they can replicate that finish, and then get the rails done without...

    Rear panel colour

Inside the car, there’s hand painted patches on the inner rear quarters behind the quarter windows (where the interior trim panels have grilles); also on the ends of the seat mounts where they are visible down the sides of the seats.

Does indeed look damaged. That price is.. interesting.

    Tech tip: OEM sound deadening

Excellent find. Those are pretty much what I worked off for the floors. The rear deck and tunnel requires a more DIY approach based on measuring and reference pics. Note: there are differences between years of 240Z, never mind later S30s. There are changes in the location of things like the...

What did you do to your Z this week?

Could well be. I need to diagnose once and for all what’s causing it; I’ve got a replacement slave cylinder as that struck me as the most likely target.

What did you do to your Z this week?

Both really - it's being built to be used, but it would be rude not to show it given all the time, effort, and money that will have gone into it! Will it be a concours-standard paint job? Probably not, but I'm aiming for it to more than stand up for itself, given the amount of prep and finishing...

What did you do to your Z this week?

Microblistering anecdote: recently I noticed my daily runaround 2004 Civic TypeR has some microblistering appearing on the left rear quarter panel. Now I know that the car has had its rear bumper repainted at some point, but there is no evidence that such work extended to the quarters, so it...

What did you do to your Z this week?

In the case of the red Z, that WAS a professional paint job - still no guarantee that there won’t be some form of issue eventually. And given it’s taken nearly two decades to suffer an issue, it’s done pretty well. As for the project - perhaps I want to paint it myself? Partially because I...

What did you do to your Z this week?

It's pretty much always a time-delayed result of something not being quite right when the spraying was originally done, so in the case of the Fairlady Z, when the bonnet was painted in 2006. Maybe humidity/temp in the booth was off, flash time wasn't properly observed, etc. Condensation has the...

What did you do to your Z this week?

Took the red Z out for its first foray into the wild of 2024 on Sunday. Started relatively easy (compared to some past springs!) and was all good running-wise. There are niggles to deal with though - loose bits and rattles in the interior, the fact that, although in decent condition due to low...
