Baffled by fuel problem in 1971 Fairlady/Z - can someone help?

I'll repeat the solution I made for the same issue when the fuel pump wouldn't prime on air: 'I had trouble priming the fuel pump on my 260Z after a long lay up and created a cheat method. I took apart a cheap bicycle pump and turned the valve around then pinned it in place. The bike pump now...

If you are looking at UK built SU carbs as replacements then the closest to the Hitachi carbs on a Z are HS6 (1 3/4"), for a bigger carb look for the HS8 (2"). Both can be found on e-bay from a variety of origins. As a start point for info try SU carburetors

It sees the outside world for the first time in 3 years

My 260Z finally got out of the garage for the first time in ages and ran it up and down a couple of local streets for a pre-MoT check. The good: Oil pressure good, noise good, gearbox and clutch smooth, brakes straight The bad: Need new carb float chamber valves (adjusted repeatedly, but...

    Failed the MOT....

I'm planning on doing a pre-MOT on my car tomorrow based on the info at Car Owner's Guide to the MOT and the horn test includes 'is not loud enough to be heard by another road user' in its failure list, so no set dB rating required to pass.

Front carb float adjusted, now it idles at 650revs and no spill from the carb when switched off.

Dome top carb float chamber top removal

Top answer Mike Nice for them to hide the nut behind a piece of the choke linkage. Rear carb float now working properly, which has just shown me that the front one needs adjusting as well. At lease the car will idle now. Many thanks Julian

Dome top carb float chamber top removal

OK my car is now running at 1500 revs plus, but won't idle. I appear to have massive over fuelling on the rear carb and this is down to overflow from the float chamber. The workshop manual says 'Remove the four screws from the float chamber cover. The float chamber cover and float lever can...

Offering / Asking for an occasional extra pair of hands

I am getting my 260Z (2 seater) back on the road after a few years laid up and am trying to do as much by myself rather than use garages this time around. I am fairly mechanically minded (engineering degree) but lack much in the way of practical experience with fixing cars. Both I and the car...

    Le Mans Classic 2012

Thanks Sean We will happily come and join you for a Friday night BBQ. What's the deal/paperwork/info needed for getting my car on the club stand? All this is under the proviso that the Z is MOT'd by beginning of July, else I'll be in France with the 'flying brick' Volvo V40. Julian

    260z Mechanical Pump

I had trouble priming the fuel pump on my 260Z after a long lay up and created a cheat method. I took apart a cheap bicycle pump and turned the valve around then pinned it in place. The bike pump now sucks rather than blows. Suction at the fuel line of one carb while blocking the fuel line at...

    Le Mans Classic 2012

I've just rejoined the club and am currently working to get my 260Z back on the road in time for Le-mans classic. The wife and I went 4 years ago and had a great time. We have booked camping at Porches curves and are taking the Thursday overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Marlo followed by a...
