That second quadrant is for the cruise control option and would normally have another cable on it. Maybe your car had cruise and its been removed? Gareth

If your car is an import then it could also be the speedo convertor behind the dash playing up. This is quite common on the Z32. Gareth

If the matrix fails it tends to dump its water all over your passengers feet, have you checked for damp? If this is dry then it could be an airlock in the cooling system - very common I understand. You could try getting the frond end of the car raised and bleed the system through. HTH...
