Put the engine back in today so I could make a start on the exhaust. I didn't manage to finish it but just working out how to fit the pipes in is more than 50% of the work. Finished the centre and rear box plus the bypass valve and collector pipework. Just the downpipes to do which required me ordering some bits.

This was the first fitting of the engine with the steering all connected and I can confirm it hits on the manifold!!! bummer. It is all fixable though but will require modifying the top joint area to make more room.

Finished the exhaust yesterday so time for a clear up in the workshop today. Need to make room for the grey 260 that's coming back at the end of the week.

More parts arrived this week so the interior will be next on the list.

Started on the wiring yesterday and made some good progress. I'm replacing the entire loom on this one by using a generic EZ-wiring loom. I've taken all the measurements from the car and marked out all the loom joints on some plywood. I will build and test it all on the bench before sleeving and sealing it.

Ah cool, interested to see how much of a job the wiring is with the ez wire. Did you get the 12 circuit?

I got the one with the most circuits as it wasn't much more money and I'll need a few extra for the FI. It's all pretty straight forward but they provide no wiring diagram at all so you need to trace some circuits like hazards/indicators. The rest is all quite simple. I wired up the headlights, rear lights, ignition switch and column switches on the bench and connected a battery to it. I've tested everything I could and it all works OK. Just need to incorporate 4 relay circuits to control the engine and add a circuits for the washers. I'm hoping to finish the wiring this week so need to spend a couple of evening drop the workshop.

I assume that's Matt's Toyota, who owns the Anglia - you could drop a Z engine in it that you have left over?

Yes. That’s Matt’s car. The fords are my mate Ian’s who has the unit next door. He has another anglia with a Yamaha r1 v8 engine plus a few other toys, 32 Ford, rascal van with mid cosworth engine, db4, ect.

Is that quilted look interior standard for the 280z John?

No Jon, but then this one is far from standard. The majority of the 280z interior is made from fitted carpet with just the rear towers covered in flat vinyl. I wanted this one to be a bit different so have gone for quilted leather for most of it. Just can't make my mind up wheather to do the panels behind the door cards in flat leather or quilted. Quilted may look a bit much. I've done the roof in quilted but left the sections around it in flat vinyl.

Took the car for a drive after it passed it's MOT this morning. I've still got a list of little jobs to work through but a least now I get the car UK registered. Here a walk around vid:

I hope you plan on fitting an air filter. I'd go for one with a velocity stack.

Yes, I do need to put an air filter on it. The airflow meter has a hard time coping with the turbulence.
